Abstract

An image forming apparatus includes a head, a detector, and circuitry. The head forms an image on a recording medium. The detector detects a vertical movement of the recording medium and a distance to the recording medium in a vertical direction. The detector includes an optical sensor to project light to the recording medium and receive the light reflected from the recording medium. The circuitry sets a first area based on a result of detection performed by the detector. The first area is an area in which the recording medium and the head collide with each other. The circuitry retracts the head to prevent the recording medium and the head from colliding with each other, in a case where a position of the head is in the first area.

Abstract

An image forming apparatus includes a body having an opening, a door on the body, a unit detachably attached to the body from the opening, a cover inside the door, a spring, and a lock. The door covers the opening at a first closed position. The unit is disposed at a mounting position inside the body. The cover is rotatable between a second closed position and an opening position in an opening direction. At the second closed position, the cover covers the unit at the mounting position. At the opening position, the cover forms an angle of 90 degrees or more with the body. The spring applies a force to the cover in the opening direction. The lock locks the cover at the second closed position. The cover displaced from the second closed position in the opening direction restricts a movement of the door to the first closed position.

Abstract

An optical system includes: a light guide to guide image light; a partial reflector; and a reflector. The partial reflector transmits a first image light guided in a first direction from a first side of the partial reflector in a light guide; and reflects second image light to exit outside from a light emission surface of the light guide, the second image light being guided in the light guide in a second direction opposite to the first direction from a second side of the partial reflector. The reflector at the second side of the partial reflector reflects the first image light back to the partial reflector as the second image light in the second direction. A dimension of the light guide in a thickness direction is longer than a beam diameter of the image light guided in the light guide. The light emission surface has a negative power.

Abstract

The present invention has an object to develop and provide a target nucleic acid detection device having a low copy number of IPC nucleic acids placed therein, and a method for producing the device, to avoid a decrease caused in the detection sensitivity to a target nucleic acid through competitive inhibition of the target nucleic acid by addition of an internal positive control (IPC) nucleic acid. Provided is a target nucleic acid detection device in which a low copy number of IPC nucleic acids that do not inhibit the amplification reaction of a target nucleic acid is preliminarily placed in a reaction well.

Abstract

A liquid discharge apparatus includes a holder, a pre-treatment head, a smoother, and a print head. The holder reciprocally moves while holding a recording medium. The pre-treatment head discharges a pre-treatment liquid onto a surface of the recording medium held by the holder. The smoother smooths the pre-treatment liquid, which is discharged onto the surface of the recording medium, along the surface of the recording medium by a movement of the holder. The print head discharges a printing liquid onto the surface of the recording medium with the pre-treatment liquid smoothed.

Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for validating an autoencoder for a printing system. In one embodiment, a system stores values associated with individual features at a printing system and further stores times indicating when the values were determined at the printing system. The system also operates an autoencoder to perform time-compression upon the values and the times. Validating the autoencoder includes: determining predictive powers of the individual features prior to time-compression via partial F tests, determining predictive powers of the individual features after time-compression via partial F tests, and determining differences between the predictive powers of the individual features before time-compression and the predictive powers of the individual features after time-compression. Depending upon differences in the predictive powers, a report is generated indicating validity or invalidity of the autoencoder.

Abstract

A display apparatus includes a plurality of connectors including a first connector and a second connector, a power supply, a display panel, and circuitry. Each of the plurality of connectors is connectable with one of a plurality of external devices including a first external device and a second external device. The circuitry is to detect that one of the plurality of external devices is connected to one of the plurality of connectors, perform negotiation on electric power with the external device that is detected, and control the power supply to output, based on a result of the negotiation, electric power to be used by the external device that is detected from the connector. In a case that the circuitry detects that the first external device is connected to the first connector and the second external device is connected to the second connector, the circuitry is further to control the power supply to output electric power, input from the first connector connected to the first external device, from the second connector to the second external device. In a case that the electric power to be output from the second connector is determined to be smaller in amount than the electric power to be used by the second external device, the circuitry is to control the power supply to reduce power consumption of the display apparatus to output an amount of the electric power to be used by the second external device from the second connector.

Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for enhanced flushing of printing systems. One embodiment is a printing system that includes an ink flushing controller. The ink flushing controller is able to identify an overlap region wherein nozzles at adjacent printheads of a marking engine overlap along a widthwise direction, to detect primary nozzles that print image data within the overlap region, and to detect overlap nozzles that do not have firing instructions to eject ink within the overlap region. The ink flushing controller is further able to analyze nozzle firing data for each overlap nozzle to determine inactive firing spans for each overlap nozzle, and in response to determining that an inactive firing span for an overlap nozzle exceeds a threshold, to generate a firing instruction directing the overlap nozzle to eject ink.

Abstract

A printing system is disclosed. The printing system includes at least one physical memory device to store compensation logic and one or more processors coupled with the at least one physical memory device to execute the compensation logic to receive measurement data corresponding to a print medium printed with a plurality of non-functioning pel forming elements, a plurality of functioning pel forming elements and a plurality of tint levels; wherein adjacent ones of the plurality of functioning pel forming elements print with compensation transfer functions applied and are located adjacent to the plurality of non-functioning pel forming elements, associate measurement data with the plurality of non-functioning pel forming elements, the compensation transfer functions and the plurality of tint levels and determine optimal compensation by selecting the compensation transfer functions that have corresponding measurement data values closest to compensation target values for each of the plurality of tint levels.

Abstract

A printing system is disclosed. The printing system includes at least one physical memory device to store compensation logic and one or more processors coupled with the at least one physical memory device to execute the compensation logic to receive measurement data corresponding to a print medium printed with a plurality of pel forming elements in adjacent printheads and a plurality of tint levels, wherein the plurality of pel forming elements comprise gap adjacent pel forming elements that print with applied compensation halftone design and non-gap adjacent pel forming elements, associate measurement data values with the gap adjacent pel forming elements, the applied compensation halftone design and the plurality of tint levels and determine optimal compensation by selecting the compensation halftone design that has corresponding measurement data values closest to compensation target values for each of the plurality of tint levels.

Abstract

A conveying device includes a conveyor, a detector, and circuitry. The conveyor conveys a recording medium in a conveyance direction. The detector detects a skew amount and a shift amount of a posture of the recording medium to be sent to the conveyor and detects, in parallel, end positions of the recording medium in a width direction of the recording medium intersecting with the conveyance direction, at at least three different points in the conveyance direction on one end of the recording medium in the width direction. The circuitry controls an operation of the conveyor and causes the detector to detect a corner folded portion of the recording medium based on the end positions of the recording medium in the width direction detected at the at least three different points.

Abstract

An enclosing device includes an envelope conveyance path, an envelope loader, an envelope-position restrictor, and an envelope-position adjuster. The envelope conveyance path conveys an envelope to an enclosing position at which an enclosure is enclosed into the envelope. The envelope loader loads the envelope to be supplied to the envelope conveyance path. The envelope-position restrictor restricts a loaded position of the envelope in the envelope loader. The envelope-position adjuster adjusts a position of the envelope with respect to a conveyance direction of the envelope while maintaining a state in which the envelope-position restrictor restricts the loaded position of the envelope.
