Abstract

A method is provided for validating annotations of objects. Spatial datapoints acquired by a sensor and annotation data are received. The annotation data is associated with the acquired spatial data points and includes an identification of each respective object. Via a processing unit, the annotations of the objects are validated by performing the steps of: determining a target range for at least one property of the objects, determining, from the acquired spatial datapoints and/or from the annotation data, a respective value of the at least one property for each respective object, and for each object, identifying the object as an erroneous object if the respective value of the at least one property is outside the target range for the at least one property. The erroneous object is selected for review regarding erroneous annotation.

Abstract

Among other things, we describe techniques for electric power steering torque compensation. Techniques are provided for a method implemented by a computer, e.g., a computer onboard an autonomous vehicle (100). A planning circuit (404) onboard the vehicle (100) and connected to an Electric Power Steering (EPS) of the vehicle determines a compensatory torque signal to modify an actual steering angle of a steering wheel (1310) of the vehicle to match an expected steering angle of the steering wheel. The planning circuit transmits the compensatory torque signal to a control circuit (1102) that controls the steering angle of the steering wheel (1310). The EPS modifies the actual steering angle based on the compensatory torque signal resulting in a modified steering angle. The control circuit operates the vehicle based on the modified steering angle.

Abstract

Among other things, we describe techniques for traffic light estimation using range sensors. A planning circuit of a vehicle traveling on a first drivable region that forms an intersection with a second drivable region receives information sensed by a range sensor of the vehicle. The information represents a movement state of an object through the intersection. A traffic signal at the intersection controls movement of objects through the intersection. The planning circuit determines a state of the traffic signal at the intersection based, in part, on the received information. A control circuit controls an operation of the vehicle based, in part, on the state of the traffic signal at the intersection

Abstract

Among other things, we describe techniques for automatically selecting data samples for annotation. The techniques use bounding box prediction based on a bounding box score distribution, spatial probability density determined from bounding box sizes and positions and an ensemble score variance determined from outputs of multiple machine learning models to select data samples for annotation. In an embodiment, temporal inconsistency cues are used to select data samples for annotation. In an embodiment, digital map constraints or other map-based data are used to exclude data samples from annotation. In an exemplary application, the annotated data samples are used to train a machine learning model that outputs perception data for an autonomous vehicle application.

Abstract

Techniques for operation of a vehicle using machine learning with motion planning include storing, using one or more processors of a vehicle located within an environment, a plurality of constraints for operating the vehicle within the environment. One or more sensors of the vehicle receive sensor data describing the environment. The one or more processors extract a feature vector from the stored plurality of constraints and the received sensor data. The feature vector includes a first feature describing an object located within the environment. A machine learning circuit of the vehicle is used to generate a first motion segment based on the feature vector. A number of violations of the stored plurality of constraints is below a threshold. The one or more processors operate the vehicle in accordance with the generated first motion segment.

Abstract

Using a planning circuit of a vehicle, a map of a geographic region is accessed. The map includes information identifying at least one lane on which vehicles can travel in the geographic region. From the map, a graph (1402) representing a driving environment is generated. The graph includes multiple trajectories (1404, 1406, 1408, 1410). At least one trajectory (1408, 1410) includes a lane change. Each trajectory is a path for the vehicle to autonomously move from a first spatiotemporal location on the map to a second spatiotemporal location on the map. The trajectory includes at least one lane alone which the vehicle can move. A trajectory of the multiple trajectories for the vehicle to travel is selected based on an initial vehicle trajectory of the vehicle. The selected trajectory includes a stem. The stem is a portion of the selected trajectory to which the vehicle is configured to adhere.

Abstract

Techniques for determination of an optimal spatiotemporal sensor configuration for navigation of a vehicle include generating a model of a virtual vehicle operating in an environment. The model of the virtual vehicle includes a virtual sensor having a virtual viewing range. The virtual viewing range of the virtual sensor is segregated into frustums. The virtual viewing range of the virtual sensor corresponds to a viewing range of a sensor of a vehicle operating in the environment. A geometric viewport is generated including pixels. The geometric viewport has a height corresponding to a number of rays emitted from the virtual sensor. The geometric viewport is segregated into sections. Each section corresponds to a frustum. A virtual point cloud of the virtual sensor is rendered. The virtual point cloud includes coordinate positions representing a portion of the environment located within the virtual viewing range of the virtual sensor.

Abstract

An electrical connector for receiving at least one electrical conductor comprises a housing, a bus bar arranged inside the housing, and at least one clamp arranged inside the housing. The at least one clamp comprises a spring arm moveable relative to the bus bar along a first axis between a connecting position and a disconnecting position. The spring arm cooperates with the bus bar to secure an electrical conductor to the bus bar when the spring arm is in the connecting position. The spring arm is positioned at a predetermined distance away from the bus bar when the spring arm is in the disconnecting position, thereby allowing an end section of an electrical conductor to be inserted through an opening of the housing into a gap between the spring arm and the bus bar or to be removed therefrom. The connector further comprises at least one slider extending into the housing and being moveable relative to the housing along a second axis between a closed position and an open position, wherein the slider includes at least one sliding guide cooperating with the spring arm such that a movement of the slider translates into a movement of the spring arm.
