Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to custom-fit in-ear audio devices, also referred to herein as in-ear audio devices, custom-fit earpieces, or simply earpieces. The following discloses embodiments of custom-fit earpieces that include features providing superior retention in a user's ear while also maintaining desirable comfort and sound quality. The superior retention is generally provided by a curable filler material disposed in a sleeve body that is deformed to conform to the shape of a user's ear as the curable filler material is cured. The comfort level of the custom-fit earpiece described herein is enhanced because the audio output member can move independently or relative to the portion of the earpiece that includes the curable filler material, thus allowing the audio output member to adjust to and comfortably fit within a given user's ear canal.

A SYSTEM FOR IMPORTING USER INTERFACE DEVICES INTO VIRTUAL/AUGMENTED REALITY
In certain embodiments, a sensing and tracking system detects objects, such as user input devices or peripherals, and user interactions with them. A representation of the objects and user interactions are then injected into the virtual reality environment. The representation can be an actual reality, augmented reality, virtual representation or any combination. For example, an actual keyboard can be injected, but with the keys pressed being enlarged and lighted.

An earbud audio device includes a housing, a speaker component and a cushion, wherein the speaker component forms the tip of the earbud upon which the cushion may be situated. The speaker component is mechanically coupled to the earbud housing in a manner that allows the cushion to be coupled thereto, the speaker component and tip able to be partially inserted into a user's ear canal during use. The speaker component may be formed with a flange extending outward to provide a support for mechanically coupling the speaker component to the housing. The speaker component and housing may in some instances be mechanically coupled together as two threaded components.
Embodiments provide a touch surface that can be integrated into an electronic device. User input can be received via the touch surface (e.g., a touchscreen, a key cap). The touch surface can include a substrate, a rigid layer for maintaining the contours of the substrate, and a surface layer deposited over the rigid layer for adjusting the surface energy of the touch surface. The substrate can be made with plastic; the rigid layer can be a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating; and the surface layer can be comprised of fluoro- or silicon-rich molecules. The DLC can be deposited over the plastic substrate via physical vapor deposition (PVD) while the surface layer can be deposited over the DLC via a chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The touch surface can be constructed using different layers of material and using different methods to improve the longevity of the touch surface against repeated use and wear.

REVERSIBLE BEHIND-THE-HEAD MOUNTED PERSONAL AUDIO SET WITH PIVOTING EARPHONE
A behind the head mounted personal audio set (10) that allows a mono-aural personal audio device to be worn in either a wearer's left or right ear without the need to remove or detach individual components of the personal audio sent and mount is disclosed. In a disclosed embodiment, the personal audio device has two earphone portions (40a, 40b) and the mount allows the audio device to operate in either mono or stereo modes wherein one of the earphones may be moved away from a wearer's ear when needed, such as when driving. A boom microphone (46) is preferably pivotally secured to one of the earphone portions.
A wireless headset has a pair of earpieces, each with a speaker or driver, and a microphone that is supported by one of the earpieces. The headset operates in wireless communication with an audio source, such as a personal audio player, and a mobile telephone. The wireless headset provides automatic cut-off of the driver in the earpiece supporting the microphone whenever the microphone is activated, thereby to prevent feedback between the microphone and the driver in the supporting earpiece.
A multi-position connector is disclosed that allows a personal audio device to be operable secured to a variety of different personal audio sets. In a disclosed embodiment, the connector is slidably secured to a frame, thereby allowing the connector’s position relative to the frame to be adjusted as needed so as to properly engage mating connectors on a particular personal audio set. A resistive détente is preferably provided at key locations along the frame so as to hold the connector at a predetermined position relative to the frame.

A behind-the-head personal audio set for a personal audio device is disclosed. The personal audio set has a headband portion sized to grasp the crown area of the wearer’s head while aligning at least one ear cup adjacent to the wearer’s ear. The headband portion defines a longitudinal, substantially horizontal, axis that substantially intersects the center of the ear cup. In disclosed preferred embodiments, the ear cup defines an ear engaging plane and the preferred geometry of this ear engaging plane with respect the headband portion’s longitudinal axis and an axis of symmetry are also disclosed. Preferably, the headband portion and ear cup portion are integrally molded and ear loops are over-molded, or dual molded, thereto.
A caller ID feature on the mobile telephone identifies the telephone number of an incoming call and correlates the number with any corresponding voice tag stored in the personal directory. The voice tag associated with the incoming caller is delivered from the telephone to the headset where it is played to provide the user with an audio caller identification. In the absence of a voice tag, voice-synthesized numerals corresponding to the telephone number of the incoming call can be provided to the headset as an audio caller ID.

COMMUNICATION OF AUDIO CONTROL SIGNALS FOR WIRELESS AUDIO HEADPHONES
A wireless audio headphone (16) communication system has an audio input for receiving an audio signal from an audio source. A wireless transceiver (30) receives and transmits radio frequency communication with a wireless audio headphone (16), the communications including an audio control signal that conforms to a wireless audio control protocol of a wireless communication protocol. A converter (32) converts the audio control signal between the wireless audio control protocol transceiver by the wireless transceiver (30) and a local control protocol for controlling the audio source.
A speaker (20) that includes a pair of spaced-apart, in-plane mounted drivers (24, 26) connected in series to a network for applying the appropriate frequency component of the electrical input drive signal to each of the drivers is disclosed. A frequency dependent shunting network, such as a low pass filter (40), is applied to one of the drivers so as to gradually mute the one driver (24) as a desired frequency is approached. The result is an aesthetically pleasing speaker that has dual in-plane drivers (24, 26) and that produces superior sound quality throughout the entire frequency range of the speaker, including those ranges in which dual, in plane, drivers (24, 26) tend to acoustically interfere with each other.
