Statistical analysis is performed on the resource utilization data to identify a range of normal measurements for the metric for the particular period off time included in the resource utilization data. Measurements of the metric of the resource utilization data for the particular period of time are compared with the identified range of normal measurements to identify measurements that are outside of the identified range of normal measurements.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GUIDING NAVIGATION THROUGH A HYPERTEXT SYSTEM
A method, system, and computer program product for aiding a user in navigating documents containing hyperlinks is provided. In one embodiment, the system retrieves, in response to a user request, a document from a network location. The system parses the document for hyperlinks and responsive to detecting a hyperlink, sends a request for at least a portion of the secondary document associated with the hyperlinks to a server. The portion contains information sufficient to determine relevance of the secondary document to the user. The system then receives the information from the server and compares the information within the portion of the secondary document to reader preferences. Based on the results of the comparison of the information with the reader preferences, the system modifies the appearance of the hyperlink. If the system determines that the secondary document is highly relevant to the user, the system may also prefetch the secondary document and store it in a read ahead cache to speed up browsing for the user.
One aspect of the invention is a method for restricting access to an enterprise network that includes determining whether a computer that may be connected to an enterprise network on a temporary basis has one or more malicious code items where the computer accompanies a visitor to a facility associated with the enterprise network. An indication is provided to a human if it is determined that the computer has one or more malicious code items.
Techniques for directing communications between computing or communications devices are described. A virtual user interface is defined that leverages capabilities from multiple user devices associated with a user. The virtual user interface is used to direct a received communication to a particular user device associated with the user.
One aspect of the invention is a method for updating the version of software resident on a computer that includes providing a kiosk in a public place. A communication path is established between the kiosk and a computer to be tested. It is determined, using the kiosk, whether at least one program resident on the computer is a preferred version.
A system and method employing a combination of long-range and short-range asset location systems, preferable a GPS-based system combined with an RFID-based system. The short-range system regularly activates itself, or is remotely polled, to determine if the asset is within range of the short-range transceivers, and the long-range system is activated to determine the location of the asset when it is outside the range of the short-range transceivers. In at least some embodiments, the asset is an automobile equipped with both RFID and GPS-based transceivers.

MOBILE INSTANT PRODUCT PRICE COMPARISON AND PRODUCT REVIEW
A method, system, and computer program product for providing product information, such as, for example, product price comparison information, product reviews, retailer information, retailer reviews, and information about similar products, to a user utilizing a mobile data processing system, such as, for example, a personal digital assistant (PDA), is provided. In one embodiment, the user scans a product code, such as, for example, a Universal Product Code (UPC) bar code, corresponding to a product which may be located on the product or product packaging. The scanner is coupled to the mobile data processing system' which transmits the product code information determined from the product code to a server. The server receives the product code information and retrieves product information from a database. The server then formats the product information into, for example, a web page, and transmits the web page back to the mobile data processing system which presents the web page to the user.
A method and system for storing and retrieving alphanumeric (83) and binary data values (78) includes storing in a tabular data archive (60) an open tabular format XML file (62) containing a plurality of alphanumeric data values (83) and meta-information (84). Meta-information (84 and 80) describes a predetermined set of characteristics of the alphanumeric data values(83) and binary data values (78). The method and system store in the tabular data archive (60) a plurality of individual binary files (64) each comprising exactly one binary data value (163, 164, 165, 166) and further describe the binary files (64) using the predetermined set of characteristics (80). The method further includes storing in the open tabular format XML file (62) a plurality of references (90) to the individual binary files (64). Thereafter, the open tabular format XML file (62) may be parsed for se.lectably retrieving at least one predetermined subset of the plurality of alphanumeric data values (83) and of the plurality of binary data values stored in individual binary files (64).
A system and method for detecting the proximity of a bus or other transportation. Each bus is equipped with a transmitter, typically radio-frequency (RF), that broadcasts as the bus travels. As the bus and transmitter come within range of corresponding receivers, the receivers will detect the transmitter and will indicate that the bus is approaching. The receivers can be placed at the bus stop, and can also be carried by passengers so that they can be notified of the approaching bus before actually having to go to the bus stop. n various embodiments, the transmitters are implemented using radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags, Bluetooth, and other known RF technologies. Preferably, the transmitters will transmit an identifier that indicates the bus route or specific bus, and the receivers are programmed to only indicate the presence of selected buses.
