Provided are multi-mode firearms, triggers, kits, and methods of use that allow a user to select between a semi-automatic firing mode and a pull-and-release firing mode that fires the firearm upon both pulling the trigger and releasing the trigger, by using the selector switch or other mechanism to change the amount the trigger can move. A safe mode that prevents the firearm from firing may also be selected in various example embodiments by using the selector switch or other mechanism to change the amount the trigger can move. In certain example embodiments the trigger cannot move at all in safe mode, can move more in semi-automatic mode, and can move yet more in pull-and-release mode. The modes can be positioned for selection in any order. Kits comprising a trigger assembly and a selector assembly are provided for retrofitting conventional semi-automatic firearms.
Provided is an apparatus, system, and method for improved control of trigger systems for semiautomatic firearms, which may include a timed locking mechanism incorporated in the trigger system that locks the trigger in the rearward or pulled position after the trigger is pulled and the action of the firearm is cycling or otherwise out-of-battery. Such a mechanism ensures that the necessary steps occur in the proper sequence in the trigger mechanism, preventing unexpected fires, misfires, and jams. Such trigger locking mechanisms have applicability to dual-mode trigger systems as well as semiautomatic firearms generally, and tend to prevent the ability to bump-fire the firearm. Such trigger locking mechanisms may also provide a tactile signal through the user's trigger finger indicating that the firearm is empty by locking the trigger in the rearward position after the firearm fires its last round and the carrier moves and remains in a rearward position.

Trigger having a movable sear and firearms incorporating same
Provided in various example embodiments is a firing mechanism for firearms including a trigger with a movable sear attached to the trigger. When dimensional interference occurs within the trigger group, the movable sear is displaced from a seated position to an unseated position, instead of moving the trigger out of the non-firing position. This allows a firearm to be cocked when the trigger is locked in safe mode, and allows a firearm to be placed into safe mode at any time, regardless of the position of the hammer. This functionality improves the effectiveness of automatic trigger locking mechanisms discussed in related applications, and may be applied in various forms to firearms generally.

Trigger-locking apparatus, system, and method for semiautomatic firearms
Provided in various example embodiments is an apparatus, system, and method for improved control of selectable dual mode trigger systems for semiautomatic firearms, which may include a timed locking mechanism incorporated in the trigger system that ensures that the carrier is seated before the hammer is actuated, and that the anti-hammer-follow disconnect does not engage out of sequence. Such a mechanism ensures that the necessary steps occur in the proper sequence in the trigger mechanism, so that at any given time the trigger and firearm are ready for the next desired function to occur. The addition of a timed trigger lock mechanism to the trigger as disclosed herein ensures that the sequence of events in the trigger is maintained in the proper relationship, preventing misfires and jams. Such trigger locking mechanisms have applicability beyond dual-mode trigger systems, and may be applied in various forms to semiautomatic firearms generally.

A magazine carrier for repeating firearms is provided which securely engages a magazine at multiple locations, and which may be easily actuated to remove the magazine, for example, with either the user's trigger hand near the trigger or with the user's other hand while gripping the magazine for removal. In various example embodiments the magazine carrier may comprise a pivoting magazine release member comprising a perimeter frame defining an opening there through, and having an offset pivoting axis and engagement lugs at opposite corners on either side of the axis. Example firearms comprising the magazine carrier are disclosed along with example methods of use.
Provided in one aspect is an annular gas ring within or adjacent a barrel to increase the efficient transfer of pressurized gas to one or more gas ports, which may communicate the high-pressure gas to a piston to cycle the action of the firearm. Provided in another aspect are gas ports may adjacent the chamber, which may communicate pressurized gas from near the chamber to distally-extending gas tubes that communicate the pressurized gas to a distally located piston to cycle the action. A modular gas system is provided comprising a coupler that couples a barrel with a chamber and forms there-between an annular gas ring with ports that communicate pressurized gas to separate longitudinally-extending cylindrical gas tubes that feed into a gas block that supports the barrel and forms the cylinder for the piston.

One embodiment of a trigger system with an integral selector for semi-automatic firearms. A selector allows the user to choose between two modes and rates of fire. A trigger (1) is made to allow passage of the lower portion of a selector cam (5) to the exterior of the firearm. A selector lever (6) is affixed to the lower end of the selector cam (5) on the exterior of the firearms action. Turning the selector lever (6) rotates the selector cam (5) which tilts a pivotal disconnector (3) on its axis, varying the amount of disconnector (3) engagement with a hammer (2). The variance in the disconnector (3) engagement causes the firearm to fire in one of two modes, firing one round with a trigger pull and resetting with trigger release, or firing one round with trigger pull, and firing another round with trigger release. Other embodiments are described.

A gas pressure mechanism that receives and supplies gas pressure to a semi or automatic shotgun during the shotgun's reloading operation. The gas pressure mechanism includes twin body members having a front cylinder in fluid communication with a rear cylinder. Each rear cylinder includes a rear gas port disposed in communication with the interior of the shotgun barrel such that gases of combustion is bled through the rear gas ports from the interior of the barrel to the interior of the rear cylinders. Similarly, each front cylinder includes a front gas port disposed in communication with the interior of the shotgun barrel at a location to effectively recoil and counter-recoil the shotgun's piston or breech bolt to its rear most position. The rear cylinders, are situated immediately in front of the shotgun's shell chamber such that the rear gas ports capture and receive the gas pressure developed immediately behind the shell load as it travels through the barrel after firing.
