A hybrid analog and digital computational system is created by receiving equations in which a set of solution values is unknown. A residual iterative algorithm is implemented to solve the set of solution values for the equations. The residual iterative algorithm includes an outer update loop computed using a digital computing device with a set of residue values initially set to a first initial value and a set of solution update values set to a second initial value. The residual iterative algorithm includes an inner residual loop, which is iteratively computed using an analog accelerator until one or more inner residual loop stopping criteria is met and returning the set of solution update values. Next, the set of solution updates are used to update the set of residue values and a range of a next set of solution update values, thereby adjusting a computational precision of the inner residual loop.

A power system for an engine that can be used in an aircraft, a marine vessel or a land vehicle has a storage tank containing ammonia. An engine supported on the vehicle is configured to operate using hydrogen gas as fuel. A cracking device in or adjacent the engine receives heat from operation of the engine, e.g., from a compressor or a combustion chamber, and also receives ammonia from the storage tank, and it uses the heat from the engine to dissociate the ammonia to produce hydrogen gas. The cracking device supplies the hydrogen gas to the engine, which has a combustor in which combustion of the hydrogen gas takes place. The energy from the combustion drives the engine so as to provide mechanical energy.

A synergistic composition can be used to treat water containing nitrogen compounds and phosphorus compounds. The synergistic composition includes iron filings, clay particles, aluminum particles, and sand particles. The iron filings, clay particles, and aluminum particles act synergistically to remove nitrogen compounds and phosphorus compounds from water. Specifically, the clay particles attract the nitrogen compounds and the phosphorus compounds to be absorbed onto a surface of the iron filings and the clay particles. The aluminum particles react with the nitrogen compounds via an oxidation reaction to form ammonia compounds, and react with the phosphorus compounds to produce aluminum phosphate. As such, the synergistic relationship between the iron filings, clay particles, and aluminum particles remove nitrogen and phosphorus compounds from water and recover the compounds in usable forms, namely, ammonia and aluminum phosphate.

Abrégé
Described, herein, relates to a system of and method for digitally monitoring a large-scale dataset on a computing device and automatically detecting, in real-time, unknown class data in order to aid a machine learning model. Once machine learning models are deployed in the real-world applications, the models tend to encounter unknown-class (i.e., out-of-distribution) (hereinafter “OOD”) data during inference. Detecting out-of-distribution data is a crucial task in safety-critical applications to ensure safe deployment of deep learning models. It is desired that the machine learning model should only be confident about the type of data that has already seen in-distribution (hereinafter “ID”) class data which reinforces the driving principle of the OOD detection. The system and method may rely on contrastive feature learning of the largescale datasets, where the embeddings lie on a compact low-dimensional space. Additionally self-supervised fine-tuning may then be performed by mapping an ID class feature into uni-dimensional sub-space.

A system for indexing, updating, and search haplotypes for genetic genealogical discovery in genotype databases. The system includes a pool of genetic indexes, a haplotype ingestion engine, and a haplotype query engine. The haplotypes of a number of individuals in a genotype database are indexed by a pool of multiple panels, and each panel pool can be dynamically updated by the insertion or deletion of individual haplotypes. A genetic genealogical search of a query haplotype against the database is achieved by first projecting the query onto a subset of panels in the pool, then conducting long match queries over each panel, and finally aggregating the identified long matches into Identical-by-Descent segments, i.e., DNA matches, between the query and the haplotypes in the database.

The invention pertains to methods for monitoring the operational status of a home automation system through extrinsic visual and audible means. Initial training periods involve capturing image and audio data representative of nominal operation, which is then processed to identify operational indicators. Unsupervised machine learning models are trained with these indicators to construct a model of normalcy and identify expectation violations in the system's operational pattern. After meeting specific stopping criteria, real-time monitoring is initiated. When an expectation violation is detected, contrastive collages or sequences are generated comprising nominal and anomalous data. These are then transmitted to an end user, effectively conveying the context of the detected anomalies. Further features include providing deep links to smartphone applications for home automation configuration and the use of auditory scene analysis techniques. The invention provides a multi-modal approach to home automation monitoring, leveraging machine learning for robust anomaly detection.

A quantum key distribution system may include a transceiver including a state randomizer to impart a random state transformation to one or more qubits of a generated faint pulse and a quantum bit encoder to reflect the faint pulse back to the transceiver with one or more encoded bits. The transceiver may receive a return pulse through the communication channel, where the state randomizer reverses the random state transformation. The transceiver may include three or more detectors to measure the return pulse at time-gated timeslots associated with possible paths of the return pulse. Reception of the faint pulse from the quantum bit encoder as the return pulse triggers a detector in a first known subset of the detectors, while reception of a faked-state pulse from a third party as the return pulse results in a non-zero probability of triggering of a detector in a second known subset of the detectors.

Described herein relates to a high-entropy alloy (hereinafter “HEA”) catalyst and a method of optimizing a catalytic reaction within an electrochemical cell. The HEA catalyst may be fabricated from the following which includes but is not limited to Platinum acetylacetonate, Palladium acetylacetonate, Iron acetylacetonate, Cobalt acetylacetonate, Nickel acetylacetonate, Manganese acetylacetonate, Potassium, Ethanol, Perchloric Acid, Oleylamine, 1-Octadecene, and/or Cyclohexane. The HEA catalyst may provide a substantially decreased polarization overpotential and active energy barrier for the electrochemical cell. In addition, the HEA catalyst may operate stably at a constant working voltage for a substantial period of time, with a negligible performance decay of the output density, whether using O2 and/or air as cathode feeding. As such, the HEA catalyst may be used with the electrochemical cell to replace a H2—O2 fuel cell, since the HEA catalyst provides similar power density with long-term operating, solving the storage and transportation problems of H2.

A computerized system and method uses a computer with trainable AI generator and discriminator modules that function together as a generative adversarial network. The discriminator module is trained to receive land-use data and to derive from it quality assessment data corresponding to an assessment of quality of the land-use plan of the land use data. The generator module receives input context data for an associated geographical area, and it generates a tensor defining a land-use plan for the associated geographical area. The generator module is trained in an adversarial training process with the trained discriminator module to generate tensor data for good land-use plans by repeatedly generating land-use plans and receiving assessment data from the discriminator module until it is trained to generate only good-quality land-use plans. The resulting generator module is then used to generate land-use plans for virgin territory.

The invention pertains to a system for managing interruptions to an electronic device outputting an audiovisual broadcast from a media application. The system consists of an interrupt manager, an audiovisual buffer, and a vamping module. The interrupt manager, linked to the device's operating system, is capable of temporarily halting the broadcast and issuing a notification to an end user. The audiovisual buffer collaborates with the interrupt manager, collecting a segment of audio output to create an audio segment to be played during the pause. Concurrently, the vamping module operates by broadcasting the audio segment when the interrupt manager interrupts the broadcast and releases the notification. This process shifts the focus to the notification, relegating the paused broadcast to a background state. The broadcast resumes when the interrupt manager redirects the operating system's focus back to it, promoting the paused broadcast back to the foreground state.

Situational awareness as a necessity in connected and autonomous vehicles domain is a subject of significant research in recent years. The driver’s safety is directly dependent on robustness, reliability and scalability of such systems. Cooperative mechanisms have provided a solution to improve situational awareness by utilizing communication networks. These mechanisms mitigate problems such as occlusion and sensor range limitation. However, the network capacity is a factor determining the maximum amount of information being shared among cooperative entities. A focus of this work is to reduce the network capacity requirements while maintaining the desirable object detection performance by utilizing and modifying the concept of feature sharing. Described here is a mechanism to further improve object detection performance by utilizing novel decentralized parallel frameworks and anew shared data alignment method to allow parallel and cooperative processing of sensed data in multiple locations yielding significant improvements in object detection.

An apparatus for sensing electrical currents in a subject has a geodesic net structure of electrode elements connect by flexible legs. The electrode elements each have an inner electrode facing and sensing electrical currents in the subject and an outer layer electrode facing away and sensing external electrical noise. The legs have flexible conductive material that electrically connects the outer electrodes so that they are all connected and are electrically the same or similar to the subject's body part. The outputs of the electrodes are converted to multiplexed digital signals and transmitted to signal processing circuitry that identifies the noise present in the signals from the outer electrodes and removes the noise from the signals from the inner electrodes so as to output clean EEG data for each inner electrode. Additional electrodes that detect extraneous neuro-muscular currents are also used to determine the noise in the inner electrode output signals.

A smart, human-centered technique that uses artificial intelligence and mixed reality to accelerate essential tasks of the inspectors such as defect measurement, condition assessment and data processing. For example, a bridge inspector can analyze some remote cracks located on a concrete pier, estimate their dimensional properties and perform condition assessment in real-time. The inspector can intervene in any step of the analysis/assessment and correct the operations of the artificial intelligence. Thereby, the inspector and the artificial intelligence will collaborate/communicate for improved visual inspection. This collective intelligence framework can be integrated in a mixed reality supported see-through headset or a hand-held device with the availability of sufficient hardware and sensors. Consequently, the methods reduce the inspection time and associated labor costs while ensuring reliable and objective infrastructure evaluation. Such methods offer contributions to infrastructure inspection, maintenance, management practice, and safety for the inspection personnel.

A method of producing an organic non-wettable superhydrophobic fullerite film is presented. Non-wettable superhydrophobic fullerite films can be easily produced by growing nanofullerites via a sonication coupled crystallization protocol followed by multiple washings to obtain a pellet of nanofullerites. The pellet is aged for at least several weeks to allow for agglomeration into a gel which may then be applied to a substrate as a non-wettable superhydrophobic fullerite film.

Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CNPs) have been proven to exhibit antioxidant properties attributed to its surface oxidation states (Ce4+ to Ce3+ and vice versa) mediated at the oxygen vacancies on the surface of CNPs. Different anions in precursor cerium salts were used to prepare CNPs resulting in disclosed CNPs with varying physicochemical properties such as dispersion stability, hydrodynamic size, and the signature surface chemistry. The antioxidant catalytic activity and oxidation potentials of different CNPs have been significantly altered with the change of anions in the precursor salts. For one, CNPs prepared using precursor salts containing NO3− and Cl− ions exhibited increased antioxidant activity than previously thought possible. The change in oxidation potentials of CNPs with the change in concentration of the nitrate and chloride ions indicates the disclosed CNP's have different surface chemistry and antioxidant properties. These compositions and methods of their synthesis are disclosed.
