Abstract

Provided herein may be a pick-up roller with a front-edge alignment element and a media separation apparatus using the pick-up roller. The pick-up roller may include a pick-up element configured to pick up and transfer a media sheet, and the front-edge alignment element provided at a position opposite to the pick-up element. During a process of picking up a stacked media sheet and transferring it into a space between a feed roller and a separation roller unit, the front-edge alignment element may align in advance a front edge of a media sheet disposed subsequent to the medial sheet that is being transferred, to a position of the entrance between the feed roller and the separation roller unit, and thereafter, the pick-up element may pick up the media sheet aligned by the front-edge alignment element and transfer it into the space between the feed roller and the separation roller unit.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a pickup roller having a front end alignment member and a medium separating device using the same and, more specifically, to a pickup roller and a medium separating device using the same, the medium separating device having the pickup roller, which picks up and transfers, in order, loaded medium, and having: a pickup member protrudingly formed at a portion of the circumference of the outer peripheral surface of the pickup roller for picking up and transferring the medium; and a front end alignment member having a strap-shaped elastic sheet mounted to protrude from the outer peripheral surface thereof on the opposite side of the outer peripheral surface, at which the pickup member is provided, while forming a curve. Therefore, when the loaded medium is picked up, in order, from the first medium by the pickup member according to the rotation of the pickup roller and transferred between a feed roller and a separating roller part, the front end of the medium, which is positioned next to the medium to be picked up and transferred, is aligned in advance at the position of an inlet between the feed roller and the separating roller part through the front end alignment member provided at the pickup roller, and the pickup member picks up and transfers the medium, aligned by the front end alignment member, between the feed roller and the separating roller part, thereby preventing the skew of the medium as well as effectively preventing the medium from being separated in two or more bundles during a medium separation process by means of the feed roller and the separating roller part, and thus medium separation efficiency can be increased.

The present invention relates to a method for discriminating banknotes using a Bayesian approach.
