Abstract

A nonwoven textile can be treated with a laser to construct bonding structures between fibers of the nonwoven textile. In examples, the nonwoven textile can have fibers including a material that absorbs electromagnetic radiation emitted by a laser. In addition, based on absorbing the electromagnetic radiation, the fibers can soften, and the softened portions of the fibers can contact one or more other fibers of the nonwoven textile. When the softened portions re-solidify (e.g., after removal of the electromagnetic radiation), the re-solidified portions of the fiber can at least partially encapsulate the other fiber(s) to form the bonding structure between the re-solidified portions and the other fiber(s). In some examples, the bonding structure can reduce the likelihood of the fibers that are associated with the bonding structure from migrating through a face of the nonwoven textile and forming pills.

Abstract

Fluid systems include: (i) a fluid line having a fluid line wall made at least in part from flexible material; and (ii) an inflated fluid chamber having a chamber wall made at least in part from flexible material. Portions of the fluid chamber and fluid line are positioned adjacent one another. The fluid chamber contains fluid at a first pressure. When pressure in the fluid line is below a first threshold value (e.g., less than the first pressure), the chamber wall is positioned to stop fluid flow through the fluid line. But, when pressure in the fluid line is greater than a second threshold value (e.g., greater than the first pressure), the chamber wall is positioned to allow fluid flow through the fluid line. The fluid system may be a laminate, e.g., with plural sheets of thermoplastic elastomer material sealed together to form the fluid line and fluid chamber.

Abstract

Fluid systems (1700), foot support systems (including sole structures), and/or articles of footwear (250) include: (a) a foot support bladder (1710); (b) a fluid reservoir (1720); (c) a pump (1730) (e.g., a foot-activated pump) including an inlet (1734) and an outlet (1732), the outlet (1732) supplying fluid to the foot support bladder (1710); (d) a first fluid line (1760) placing the fluid reservoir (1720) in fluid communication with the inlet (1734) of the pump (1730); and (e) a second fluid line (1766) placing the foot support bladder (1710) in fluid communication with the fluid reservoir (1720). Such fluid systems (1700), foot support systems, and/or articles of footwear (250) further may include a switch (1740) configured to change the second fluid line (1766) between an open configuration and a closed configuration. When the second fluid line (1766) is in the closed configuration, the pump (1730) moves fluid from the fluid reservoir (1720) to the foot support bladder (1710), and movement of sufficient fluid from the fluid reservoir (1720) to the foot support bladder (1710) with the second fluid line (1766) in the closed configuration decreases a height dimension (H1, H2) of the fluid reservoir (1720). Such fluid systems (1700), foot support systems, and/or articles of footwear (250) further may include a fluid line support member (600) (e.g., for supporting fluid line (1764) and/or fluid line (1766)).

Abstract

Fluid systems (100, 100A, 100B, 100C, 100D, 150) switch between a high pressure configuration and a low pressure configuration. Such fluid systems (100, 100A, 100B, 100C, 100D, 150) may be incorporated into sole structures (200) and/or footwear (200) in which the fluid systems (100, 100A, 100B, 100C, 100D, 150) may be used to vary foot support pressure between a high pressure foot support configuration (e.g., a firmer and more responsive configuration for more active uses) and a low pressure foot support configuration (e.g., a softer and more comfortable configuration for standing or less active uses). Some examples of this technology may include foot support systems (100, 100A, 100B, 100C, 100D, 150) for articles of footwear (200) having: (a) a foot support bladder (120); (b) a first pump (104) including a first pump inlet (104I) and a first pump outlet (104O); (c) a first fluid line (118) placing the first pump outlet (104O) in fluid communication with the foot support bladder (120) for supplying fluid to the foot support bladder (120); and (d) a slow pressure release component (124) in fluid communication with the foot support bladder (120). The slow pressure release component (124) releases fluid from the foot support bladder (120) to change the foot support bladder (120) from the high pressure foot support configuration to the low pressure foot support configuration.

Abstract

Stitch-pressing components, knitting machines with stitch-pressing components, and methods of manufacturing, integrating, and using the same. The stitch-pressing components herein can be configured to replace a yarn-feeder that is mounted on a rail of a knitting machine. This allows the stitch-pressing component to be shifted along the rail, and shifted between a raised position and a lowered position like the yarn-feeder, so that the stitch-pressing component can be used to press on yarn that is inlaid to form part of a knitted structure. The stitch-pressing components herein can be implemented in knitting machines to facilitate different stitch-pressing processes with limited cost, complexity, and modification to existing knitting machines.

Abstract

Fluid systems switch between a high pressure configuration and a low pressure configuration. Such fluid systems may be incorporated into sole structures and/or footwear in which the fluid systems may be used to vary foot support pressure between a high pressure foot support configuration (e.g., a firmer and more responsive configuration for more active uses) and a low pressure foot support configuration (e.g., a softer and more comfortable configuration for standing or less active uses). Some examples of this technology may use a manually activated interface to switch between the high pressure foot support configuration and the low pressure foot support configuration. In other examples, the fluid system may be configured to automatically change between the high pressure foot support configuration (e.g., when the wearer moves) and the low pressure foot support configuration (e.g., when the wearer remains stationary).
