Abstract
A cleaning device for cleaning a media transport device includes a core layer, a cleaning surface, and an embossment having at least one surface slit across an extended surface of the embossment. The cleaning device may be manufactured by contacting laminating a cleaning surface to at least one side of a core layer and applying heat and/or pressure to form one or more compressible and resilient embossments. The cleaning device may be used to clean a media transport device by inserting a cleaning tool having a core layer, cleaning surface, and an embossment into a media transport device such that an electrical contact comes in contact with the embossment.

Abstract
A system for cleaning a media transport device includes a cleaning substrate sized and configured to fit within at least a portion of a media travel pathway of the transport device. The cleaning substrate includes a cleaning face and a locking member that secures the cleaning substrate in a substantially fixed position within the transport device while the transport device is operated. The cleaning substrate also may include scarifying holes that scrape debris from media conveyors of the transport device, and flaps that fit under and clean belts of the transport device. Cleaning the transport device may include opening a section, positioning the cleaning substrate in the section without operating the media conveyors' motor, closing the section and then operating the transport device so that the media conveyors move, contact the cleaning substrate and are cleaned while the cleaning substrate remains substantially fixed within the transport device.

Abstract
A cleaning card for use in cleaning internal surfaces of a machine-reading mechanism includes a substrate having discrete raised areas in opposed surfaces thereof. Each raised area includes a peak and a peripheral wall having an edge remote from the peak, the peak of each raised area being farther from a central plane of the card than the edge of the peripheral wall. Relief means are provided in the substrate for preventing the peaks of some of the raised areas from flattening toward the central plane such that peaks will not engage and clean desired surfaces of a machine-reading mechanism when the cleaning card moves in the machine direction in other than a single, linear plane. A cleaning card may include embossments for providing a gripping region to be gripped by rolls of a machine-reading mechanism, and also for use in a method for cleaning rolls of the machine-reading mechanism.

Abstract
A cleaning card for cleaning internal surfaces of a machine-actuating mechanism includes a substrate having a central plane between opposed surfaces thereof, a machine direction dimension defined between opposed end edges and a transverse direction dimension defined between opposed side edges. The opposed surfaces each have a plurality of discrete raised areas providing a plurality of transversely extending rows of discrete raised areas. At least some of the discrete raised areas in at least some of the transversely extending rows extend outwardly on each side of the central plane. The discrete raised areas each include a peak and a peripheral wall joined at one edge to the peak and having an opposed edge that is closer to the central plane than the peak. The cleaning substrate has an effective thickness between the opposed surfaces that is greater than the nominal thickness between those surfaces. A method of making a cleaning card includes dampening a substrate of the cleaning card with a fluid, embossing the dampened substrate to provide a plurality of discrete raised areas with elastic memory. Another method of making a cleaning card includes heating a cleaning card substrate during embossing to provide discrete raised areas with elastic memory, either with the substrate dampened or dry.
