Abstract

A machine accesses a first image captured prior to initiation of a procedure, where the first image depicts a set of instruments, as well as a second image captured after initiation of the procedure, where the second image depicts a proper subset of the set of instruments depicted in the first image. From the first and second images, the machine may determine that an instrument among the set of instruments depicted in the first image is not depicted among the proper subset of the set of instruments in the second image, and then cause presentation of a notification that indicates the instrument not depicted in the second image is missing. Alternatively, or additionally, the machine may determine whether an instrument among the set of instruments was used in the procedure, and then cause presentation of a notification that indicates whether the instrument was used in the procedure.

Abstract

Described herein are example methods and example systems for providing guidance to a user during a medical procedure. The example methods may be performed by one or more processors and may include estimating a blood loss of a patient, determining a current patient stage of a blood loss protocol based on the estimated patient blood loss, and providing guidance to a user based on the current patient stage of the blood loss protocol. The blood loss protocol may include a plurality of stages, and each stage may include one or more elements. Providing guidance to a user may include selecting one or more elements from the current patient stage of the blood loss protocol.

Abstract

Described herein are methods and systems for tracking surgical items. The methods may be performed by one or more processors, and may include receiving a first count of surgical items, receiving one or more images, wherein each image is a field of view comprising one or more surgical items, determining a second count of surgical items based at least in part on the one or more received images, and providing a notification based on the comparison between the first count of surgical items and the second count of surgical items.

Abstract

A system performs a method for processing an image of a machine- readable code. The method includes receiving an image of a machine-readable code comprising coded information, where the machine-readable code is at least partially obscured by a substance that has a predominant color; generating an adjusted image by adjusting a color space of the image based on the predominant color; binarizing at least a machine-readable code region of the image, wherein the machine-readable code region of the image depicts the machine-readable code; and decoding the binarized machine -readable code region to determine the coded information. Other apparatus and methods are also described.

Abstract

A system performs a method for characterizing passage of a patient fluid through a conduit. The method includes quantifying flow of fluidic content through a conduit, where the fluidic content includes a patient fluid, estimating a concentration of a fluid component of the patient fluid in the fluidic content, and characterizing passage of the patient fluid loss through the conduit based on the quantified flow and the concentration of the fluid component. At least one of the quantified flow or the concentration of the fluid component is based on sensor data from a sensor arrangement coupled to the conduit. Other apparatus and methods are also described.
