Abstract

A safety razor handle has a body having a cartridge attachment end with an adjoined elongated hollow portion terminating in an opening at an opposed end of the body. A pushbutton is slidably retained in the opening and movable along an axis of the hollow portion between an at-rest position and a depressed position. An elongated transfer rod is located in the hollow portion and has a first end in the cartridge attachment end region of the hollow portion and a second end closely abutting the pushbutton. A compression spring acts between the cartridge attachment end and the first end of the transfer rod to bias the transfer rod along the axis towards the opening. An ejector is mounted in the cartridge attachment end having an outer end extendable outwardly from the cartridge attachment end and an inner end closely abutting the first end of the transfer rod.

Abstract

A shaving implement has a guard provided to fit over a blade retaining cartridge of a razor configured for wet shaving. The guard has a frame defined by top and bottom rails, spaced by first and second side edges, and elongated members defining a grate. The elongated members have outwardly extending barbs configured to arrange facial hair during a shaving process. The guard is secured over the blade retaining cartridge of the razor. When disposed over the blade retaining cartridge, the grate portion of the guard spaces any blades retained in the cartridge from the surface of a user's skin while still leaving such blades at least partially exposed to the user's facial or body hair. This enables a user to trim, rather than fully shave, his hair and further protects the user's skin from the harmful effects of close shaving.

Abstract

In the method for coating a razor blade with a lubricating material, a razor blade is provided having a body portion and a tip end defined by at least one tip surface and a cutting edge. The lubricating material is sprayed on the tip end of the razor blade, wherein spraying the lubricating material is performed steam-aided in that the lubricating material is introduced into a superheated water steam directed towards the tip end of the razor blade. Moreover, a method of making a razor blade by using the afore-mentioned method for coating the razor blade with a lubricating material is provided. Finally, also a razor blade coated in accordance with these methods, and a shaving razor provided with such a razor blade are described.

Abstract

A razor cartridge has an elongated housing with a guard having spaced-apart ribs; a cap at a respective front and rear region of the housing; and a partition extending between and integrally formed with opposed lateral side walls of the housing. A first razor blade is mounted in a first blade mounting region between the guard and the partition. A second razor blade adjacent the partition, and a third razor blade are mounted in a second blade mounting region between the partition and the cap. A first span between the cutting edge of the first razor blade and the cutting edge of the second razor blade is at least 3.0 mm up to 5.12 mm. Pivotal connecting structure of the housing defines a pivot axis in a region between the cutting edges of the first and second razor blades.

Abstract

A safety razor has a handle and a razor cartridge having a handle and a connector. The connector includes a recess with an opening portion and a remote portion at an end of the recess opposed the opening portion. The handle includes a first ejector connected to a user-operable button and a distal end portion of the first ejector is adapted to contact an interior surface of the remote portion of the recess. The button also includes a second ejector structure adapted to contact the opening portion of the recess. When the button is operated, the combined function of the distal end portion of the first ejector contacting and pushing against a surface of the remote portion of the recess and the second ejector structure contacting and pushing against the opening portion of the recess act to disconnect the razor cartridge from the handle.

Abstract

A safety razor has a handle with an extension having a pair of depressions to each receive a respective one of two detents of a razor cartridge and which extension provides cartridge support structure that engages a recess of the razor cartridge. The razor cartridge has a blade unit and a connector. The recess of the razor cartridge is in part defined by opposed walls of the connector providing a floor and a ceiling and the two detents are on the floor and extend into the recess. The floor has a slot between the two detents and the slot is sized such that deflection of any one detent on its respective floor portion is substantially independent of deflection of the other detent on its respective floor portion.

Abstract

A shaving system has a razor cartridge with a blade unit and handle connection structure having a first magnetic element, and a handle having a magnet mounted to the handle and an ejector button having a second magnetic element, movable between a first position and a second position. When the razor cartridge is attached to the handle and the ejector button is in its first position, the second magnetic element of the ejector button is positioned between the magnet of the handle and the first magnetic element of the razor cartridge. When the ejector button is moved to its second position, magnetic attraction between the magnet and the first magnetic element is reduced and the razor cartridge is unattached from the handle. When a user releases the ejector button, magnetic attraction between the magnet and the second magnetic element returns the ejector button to its first position.

Abstract

A tampon pledget is made by assembling one or more pads in a pad compression configuration, radially compressing the pad compression configuration in a traverse direction into a cylindrical form, and axially compressing the cylindrical form in a direction along a vertical axis to form the tampon pledget. In one embodiment, the axial compression is performed as a pressure is applied to at least one of a first and a second end of the cylindrical form. In one aspect of the present invention, the formed tampon pledget has an absorbent capacity as measured by the syngyna test of between about 6.0 grams to 9.0 grams and a density of about 0.4603 grams/cubic centimeter. In another aspect of the invention, the formed tampon pledget has an absorbent capacity as measured by the syngyna test of between about 9.0 grams to 12.0 grams and a density of about 0.4755 grams/cubic centimeter.
