Abstract

A thermoplastic bag includes duplicative seals. In particular, in one or more implementations, a thermoplastic bag includes a first seal and at least a second seal reinforcing the same area of the thermoplastic bag. For instance, in one or more implementations, the thermoplastic bag includes multiple seals along each side edge or along the hem. If one seal fails, the other seal(s) can remain in place to prevent leaks. Thus, the duplicative seals of the thermoplastic bag can provide reinforced strength and desired aesthetics.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to strata 2-ply drawstring trash bags implementing a J-flap extended hem to provide increased top-of-bag strength. In one or more embodiments, the J-flap extended hem includes a 2-ply web folded back on itself (e.g., during a hem folding operation to enclose the drawstring within a hem channel). In one or more implementations, a hem seal secures the 2-ply web to an inside surface of the trash bag. At least one ply of the 2 -ply web fold-over extends past the hem seal and is additionally secured to the inside surface of the trash bag via one or more hem skirt seals. For reduced material consumption in certain embodiments, the J-flap extended hem of the present disclosure imparts added strength using only one ply of the 2-ply web fold-over. In some embodiments, at least one ply of the 2-ply web fold-over includes ring-rolled portions to add top-of-bag strength.

Abstract

Sanitizing and disinfecting compositions with relatively low levels of free available chlorine, with good effectiveness against microbes, included in a burstable pouch of a system also including a plurality of initially undosed (e.g., dry) wipes in a resealable package thereof. The composition may include less than 0.5% by weight hypochlorite or other free available chlorine level, with a pH less than 12. The composition is long term stable in the pouch, but upon bursting of the pouch and dosing of the wipes, exhibits only short-term stability. Because of the low level of hypochlorite, the dosed wipes exhibit improved surface compatibility and negligible “bleach” odor, while providing at least a 3-log reduction in C. diff population within 10 minutes.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to thermoplastics film, multi-film structures, and bags including enhanced physical properties. For example, one or more implementations include tailoring the physical properties of thermoplastic films by forming raised rib-like elements in the films that extend at an angle relative to a direction in which the film is extruded (e.g., the machine direction). In other words, one or more implementations include films with a pattern of raised rib-like elements extending at an acute angle to the predominate direction of molecular orientation of the thermoplastic film. The angled raised rib-like elements increase the machine direction tear resistance of the thermoplastic film by intersecting any machine direction propagating tears and redirecting the tears towards the higher tear resistant transverse direction.

Abstract

Cleaning compositions that include carvacrol, in an amount sufficient to provide an antimicrobial effect. For example, the compositions can include 0.1% to 2% by weight of carvacrol. The cleaning compositions advantageously further include a surfactant, particularly an anionic surfactant, which enhances the antimicrobial efficacy characteristics of the carvacrol. For example, the composition can include at least 0.1%, at least 0.3%, or at least 0.5% of one or more anionic surfactants. Alkyl sulfates (e.g., C8 to C12 alkyl sulfates) are particularly suitable. A buffer may also be present. The compositions may have a relatively high pH, e.g., 9 to 12. The cleaning composition may exhibit a significant log reduction against a target microorganism (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus and/or others) within a given time period (e.g., 10 minutes, 5 minutes, or the like), when used on a target surface.

Abstract

Pre-moistened wipes that include one or more characteristics correlated to desired properties, such as high durability, mileage, cleaning composition retention, efficacy, or the like. Pulp substrates typically include an anionic charge, which can result in binding or retention of a cationic biocide such as a quaternary ammonium compound while the remainder of the composition is released from the wipe (e.g., through squeezing, wiping or other compression). The present wipes are specifically tailored to release at least 20% of the quaternary ammonium compound to a target surface, and exhibit at least a 3-log reduction in Staphylococcus aureus population within about 10 seconds to 5 minutes. Such release and efficacy is achieved without the presence of any cationic biocide release agent (e.g., latex or a cationic salt) included in the cleaning composition or elsewhere within the pre-loaded disinfecting wipe.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a thermoplastic film that includes a layer of thermoplastic material and a color indicator applied to the thermoplastic material. The color indicator can be configured to change color in response to a trigger. For example, the color indicator can change color (e.g., change from a first color to a second color) in response to a color change trigger, such as exposure to malodor particles, absorption of moisture, a length of time, or as a result of oxidation. In one or more embodiments, the thermoplastic film further includes an odor control component configured to mask, neutralize, or otherwise control malodors. The color indicator can change its color appearance as the odor control component performs to control any present malodors, thus signaling the performance of the odor control component.

Abstract

One or more implementations of a thermoplastic bag with a grab zone of deformations including raised rib-like elements positioned in a high-touch area of the bag. For example, the thermoplastic bag includes a hem skirt non-continuously laminated to a sidewall by one or more raised rib-like elements. The grab zone regions of one or more raised-rib-like elements are located in visible and high-touch areas to provide visual and tactile cues of strength and durability. Moreover, the grab zone regions of one or more raised rib-like elements serve to distribute pull and lift forces across a wider area in order to avoid common failures in high-touch areas such as over stretching, punctures, tears, and rips.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to thermoplastic films and products formed therefrom that include additive components effectively compartmentalized based on diffusion characteristics of the additive components. For example, first and second additive components are localized on a thermoplastic film in a manner that as the additive components diffuse, they minimize or avoid interaction. Specifically, the thermoplastic film is folded over itself to create an air gap that causes the additive components to desorb, diffuse into the air gap, and then absorb into the film at a position across the air gap rather than diffusing substantially laterally across the thermoplastic film. By ensuring that the additive components diffuse up and down rather than laterally and by laterally offsetting the additive components, one or more implementations effectively compartmentalize the antagonistic components.

Abstract

A pre-loaded cleaning substrate, and related systems and methods for picking up particles with an aspect ratio (L/D) greater than 300 (e.g., hair), or greater than 1200 (e.g., particularly long hairs). The substrate (e.g., a nonwoven) may include only a single layer of material. The pre-loaded substrate is loaded (e.g., during manufacture) with a cleaning composition. The fibers of the substrate may have an average diameter less than 15 μm, the substrate may have an air permeability of 35 ft3/min to 75 ft3/min, and the liquid cleaning composition may have a surface tension of less than about 50 dynes/cm. Together, the combination of the particular substrate and cleaning composition may facilitate markedly improved ability to pick up high L/D aspect ratio particle debris (e.g., such as hair), while retaining such particles (e.g., providing hair retention index values of at least 20).

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to thermoplastic bags having a drawtape within a hem, where the drawtape includes a deformation pattern of a plurality of ribs and a plurality of web areas. The plurality of ribs can include ribs that extend across the drawtape in a non-parallel direction with respect to the width of the drawtape (e.g., at an angle). In some instances, the non-parallel direction causes each rib to point towards a hem hole of the hem that exposes a portion of the drawtape. The plurality of ribs can further be mirrored across an axis that corresponds to a length of the drawtape. In some cases, the ribs are formed via a structural elastic-like film (SELF) process, such as a phased SELF process that leaves a portion of the drawtape without ribs.

Abstract

A thermoplastic film which exhibits elastic-like behavior along at least one axis when stretched or elongated and then released. The thermoplastic film comprises a plurality of raised rib-like elements extending in a direction perpendicular to a main surface of the thermoplastic film. The thermoplastic film further includes a plurality of web areas positioned about the plurality of raised rib-like elements. The plurality of raised rib-like elements and plurality of web areas are arranged in a complex pattern. The complex pattern provides visual and tactile cues as the films are stretched or elongated. The complex pattern can cause the thermoplastic film to have a complex stretch profile.

Abstract

Treatment compositions for use in laundry capable of providing sanitization through the wash e.g., for use with a detergent, where the compositions include an inorganic zinc salt potentiated by a phenolic solvent, to provide sanitization. The compositions can include an inorganic zinc salt, and a phenolic solvent, e.g., at an acidic pH (e.g., 2 to 5, or 3.5 to 4.5). The composition can include an anionic surfactant (e.g., alkyl sulfates, alkyl ether sulfates, etc.) and/or a nonionic surfactant (e.g., an alkyl polyglucoside). The composition may be free of alkoxylated nonionic surfactants which are not stable in the present compositions, which have high ionic strength (e.g., due to ˜3% of the zinc salt included in the formula). The composition may be free of various other components that would not be stable in such high ionic strength conditions, or otherwise interfere with stability and efficacy of the sanitizing and/or disinfecting laundry composition.
