Abstract

Provided are a processing device, a processing method, and a tool that enable the threaded bottom surface of a workpiece to have smaller recesses and protrusions. This processing device (illustrated as a machine tool (100)) feeds a workpiece and a multi-edged tool, relative to each other, along the process feeding direction while rotating the workpiece and the multi-edged tool relative to each other, and performs threading on the workpiece by performing a cutting process a plurality of times on the workpiece in the radial direction of the workpiece along an identical cutting path having a prescribed helical shape. The processing device is provided with a control unit (181) which performs a grooving process for forming a threaded portion in association with vibration in the radial direction of the workpiece and a finishing process for forming a threaded portion through contact with the grooved portion of the workpiece. The multi-edged tool (illustrated as a tip (131)) has a first cutting blade (illustrated as a front edge (141)) and a second cutting blade (illustrated as a rear edge (142)) shorter in length than the first cutting blade, the first and second cutting blades being arranged side by side along the process feeding direction. The control unit sets the amplitude of the vibration waveform to a value such that the edge of the second cutting blade does not come in contact with the threaded bottom surface of the workpiece during finishing process.
