Abstract

A worksite controller can manage machines, including a first machine configured to perform a first task and a second machine configured to perform a second task that follows the first task. The worksite controller can predict a time that the first machine will complete the first task at a work area. The worksite controller can also predict a time the second machine would arrive at the work area to perform the second task. Based on a comparison of the time the second machine would arrive at the work area and the predicted first task completion time, the worksite controller can instruct the second machine to enter or exit a low-power state. For example, if the second machine would arrive at the work area earlier than the predicted first task completion time, the worksite controller can instruct the second machine to avoid idling while waiting by entering the low-power state.

The input pulley is rotated by a motor, and when rotated, transfers rotational motion to the output pulley by the drive belt. A controller is in communication with an input speed sensor that measures the input pulley and an output speed sensor that measures the output pulley. The controller calculates an input speed from the measurement of the input pulley, and an output speed from the measurement of the output pulley. The controller also sends a damaged belt signal to an operator control of the work machine when the output speed is lower by a predetermined threshold than the input speed.

Abstract

A work machine, such as a wheel loader, operating in a worksite within a wireless control system includes an operator-specific configuration of machine settings associated with an identification for the operator. As the work machine executes a work function, the operator identification, an initial operator-specific configuration, and sensed performance metrics are transmitted to a control system for the worksite. Linking the operator identification to one or both of the initial operator-specific configuration and the metrics, the control system analyzes performance of the work machine by the operator with increased granularity and flags potential irregularities. A modified operator-specific configuration to change operator performance is returned to the work machine and made to override the initial operator-specific configuration when the operator next takes control of the work machine.

Abstract

A system for indicating a fluid level in a fluid tank of a machine includes a plurality of lighting units and at least one indicia. The lighting units are sequentially arranged with respect to each other and configured to be sequentially activated or sequentially deactivated to correspondingly indicate a real-time level of a fluid in the fluid tank. The indicia is disposed along the lighting units to correspondingly indicate at least one threshold level of the fluid in the fluid tank. The indicia allows inference of the real-time level to recede below the at least one threshold level if a sequential deactivation of the lighting units moves past the indicia in a first direction. In addition, the indicia allows inference of the real-time level to exceed the at least one threshold level if a sequential activation of the lighting units moves past the indicia in a second direction.

Abstract

Systems and methods can sense, using a vibration sensor disposed relative to a rotor of a milling machine, vibration associated with a cutting operation of the rotor of the milling machine; and determine during the cutting operation whether the sensed vibration associated with the cutting operation of the rotor indicates now that the rotor is cutting a second material different from a first material being previously cut by the rotor during the cutting operation. The second material can be harder than the first material. Cutting operations of the milling machine can be controlled based on identification of the rotor cutting the second material. The cutting operations can include speed of the milling machine, cutting level and/or depth of the rotor, and/or rotational speed of the rotor.

Abstract

When removing portions of a work surface at a worksite with a machine (e.g., such as a cold planer), is useful to know the actual cut depths on each edge of the cold planer and/or the volume of material that has been removed from a work surface. However, determining actual cut depths and/or volume removed is difficult, costly, and can be inaccurate, resulting in increased costs and inefficiencies at the worksite. Accordingly, the present disclosure describes systems and methods for enabling automatic control of cut depth of a machine via a machine-controlled feedback loop and improved determinations of actual volume of material removed by the machine.

A retention system for retaining a milling drum to a driveshaft of a milling assembly. The driveshaft is powered to drive the milling drum about an axis. The retention system includes a retention member coupled to the driveshaft between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the retention member restricts a disengagement between an engagement surface of the driveshaft and a mating surface of the milling drum, inhibiting a release of the milling drum from the driveshaft along the axis. In the second position, the retention member provides clearance for the disengagement of the engagement surface and the mating surface, facilitating the release of the milling drum from the driveshaft along the axis.

Abstract

Non-line of sight (NLOS) remote control for machines is accomplished by a remote-control station with cellular connectivity to run multiple machines remotely. However, NLOS is expensive and may not work in areas with low cell tower coverage. Accordingly, the present disclosure pertains to providing on-machine remote control to operators of machines at a worksite. The on-machine remote control allows one machine to actively control another machine through connectivity between those two machines. For example, a tractor operator may use on-machine remote control to take control of a compactor, such that the compactor may be run using the tractor controls.

Abstract

A system and method for marking a boundary while defining an autonomous worksite includes receiving first information indicative of a first maneuvering distance from a side of a machine and activating an indicator. The indicator, representative of the first maneuvering distance, is positioned at the side of the machine to be visible to an operator of the machine. The machine is positioned on a worksite surface along a path to be traversed when executing a work plan. After a control system receives a verification from the operator that the machine may operate outside the worksite area and within an outer boundary defined by the first maneuvering distance, a worksite perimeter is defined to include the path, and a geofence for the machine is determined to substantially overlay the outer boundary.

Abstract

In some implementations, a controller may cause a gearbox coupled to a rotor to shift between a first gear ratio and a second gear ratio one or more times. The controller may obtain a first set of position data that identifies respective first positions of a gear selector of the gearbox for each shift to the first gear ratio, and a second set of position data that identifies respective second positions of the gear selector of the gearbox for each shift to the second gear ratio. The controller may determine a first calibrated position of the gear selector for a shift to the first gear ratio based on the first set of position data and a second calibrated position of the gear selector for a shift to the second gear ratio based on the second set of position data.
