Abstract

A method and apparatus for grading leather based upon the size and spacing of the breaks in the leather. All or a portion of a hide is fed to a fixture that compresses a local area of the hide into a concave shape. The outer side of the hide is compressed and the inner side of the hide is expanded to cause breaks to be manifested in a local area. The local area of the hide is scanned with a digitizing profilometer that measures the depth of the breaks as the hide is fed through the fixture. The depth data measured by the digitizing profilometer is recorded by a controller. The depth data is then correlated with location data representing the local area scanned to develop a map of the break.

Abstract

A method of heat shrinking a protective sleeve onto an electrical connection includes an initial step of providing an electrical connection, such as between an electrical wire and an electrical termination device, and a protective sleeve having an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface of the protective sleeve has an adhesive material applied thereto and is disposed about the electrical connection. Thermal energy is applied to the outer surface of the protective sleeve so as to increase the temperature thereof. Either before, at the same time, or after this step, the temperature of some or all of the electrical connection disposed within the protective sleeve is increased, such as by induction heating. As a result, the protective sleeve shrinks onto the electrical connection, and the adhesive material forms a tight bond between the protective sleeve and the electrical connection.

Abstract

A seat assembly for use with a vehicle includes a seat back that is mountable in the vehicle such that the seat is pivotable between a use position and a folded position. Furthermore, the seat back includes an engaging member. The seat assembly also includes a hinge assembly associated with the seat back. The hinge assembly includes a bracket that is attachable to the vehicle, a pivot member pivotally attached to the bracket, and a blocking member pivotally attached to the bracket. When a sufficient forward force is applied to the seat back, the pivot member pivots in a first direction about a first axis, which causes the blocking member to pivot in a second direction different than the first direction about a second axis and engage the engaging member, thereby blocking pivotal movement of the seat back. In this embodiment, the second axis is located forward of the first axis.

Abstract

A pressure receiving member for receiving loads from a pelvic region and back portions of a passenger, is formed into an approximate U character shape and is connected to a crank member to hang across left and right side members inside a seat back. During a rear-end collision, the pressure receiving member shifts to and circularly moves the crank member in the backward and upper directions to circularly move circularly moving links against the energizing force provided by an extension spring. An arm of a lumbar support forms an approximate-L-character- shaped part. An insertion hole starts with a hole of a larger diameter and extends to a hole of a smaller diameter so that the arm can be inserted into the insertion hole in a horizontal direction. A bushing with a flange is mounted around the arm, and fit together with larger-diameter hole of the insertion hole to support the arm.
