Abstract

Systems and methods are described for generating pixel image data, using a lensless camera, based on light that travels through a mask that with pattern masking the lensless camera. The system applies a transformation function to the pixel image data to generate frequency domain image data. The system inputs the frequency domain image data into a machine learning model, wherein the machine learning model does not have access to data that represents the pattern of the mask. The model is trained using a set of images with the feature that are captured by the flat, lensless camera through the mask. The system processes the frequency domain image data using the machine learning model to determine whether the pixel image data depicts the image feature. The system further performs an action based on determining that the pixel image data depicts the image feature.

Abstract

Systems and methods for correcting a voice query based on a subsequent voice query with a lower pronunciation rate. In some aspects, the systems and methods calculate first and second pronunciation rates of first and second voice queries. The systems and methods determine that the second pronunciation rate is lower than the first pronunciation rate and determine a first candidate pronunciation time for a first candidate word from the first voice query. The systems and methods determine a second candidate pronunciation time, adjusted to the first pronunciation rate, for the second candidate word from the second voice query. The systems and methods determine that the first candidate pronunciation time matches the second candidate pronunciation time and generate a third voice query based on the first voice query by replacing the first candidate word with the second candidate word.

Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for presenting an interactive content item matching a user-selected category to a user for a desired duration. A user selects a category and selects a first interactive content item on a media system. The system calculates a total duration of a storyline from the selected interactive content item that matches the selected category (e.g., a genre “comedy”) and compares the calculated duration to a desired predetermined duration for which the user wishes to watch the selected show. If the system determines, for instance, that the total duration of the selected storyline is less than the predetermined duration, the system identifies scenes from another show and interleaves them with scenes from the first interactive content item to generate a combined interactive content item that satisfies the user viewing preferences.

Abstract

Systems and methods for generating a content item based on a difference between a user confidence score and a confidence score are disclosed. For example, a system generates for output a first content item. While the first content item is being outputted, the system receives user data via sensors of a device. The system determines a user confidence score based on the user data and metadata of the first content item. The user confidence score indicates a user's perceived probability of an event occurring in the future. The system calculates a prediction score which estimates the likelihood of the event occurring in the future. In response to determining that the difference between the user confidence score and the prediction score exceeds a threshold, the system selects a second content item related to the event and generates for output a recommendation comprising an identifier of the second content item.

Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for modifying modulated signals for transmission. The system receives a modulated signal comprising a speech signal and a carrier wave and generates first and second spectral signals by converting the modulation signal and carrier wave from the time domain to the frequency domain respectively. The system then determines spectral bands for the first and second spectral signals. For each spectral band, the system calculates a weighted spectral band value based on a magnitude of the first spectral signal within the spectral band and generates a modified spectral signal by modifying the second spectral signal with the weighted spectral band value. The system then converts the modified spectral signal from the frequency domain to the time domain and transmits the converted modified spectral signal to a server.

Abstract

Systems and methods are described for controlling media content based on user presence information. A user interaction with playing of a first media asset generated for presentation at a consumption device may be identified, and in response, historical wireless signal characteristics of a wireless network, over which wireless signals are used to generate for display the first media asset, may be determined. While a second media asset is generated for display, the second media asset at the consumption device may be modified based on user presence information determined by comparing current wireless signal characteristics of the wireless network to the historical wireless signal characteristics of the wireless network.

Abstract

Systems and methods are described herein for a media guidance application that facilitates presenting, to a user, media assets that match a search expression by generating for display media asset identifiers corresponding to media assets that are scheduled for transmission to a plurality of users during a specific time interval. The media asset identifiers corresponding to media assets that match the search expression are distinguished from media asset identifiers that correspond to media assets that do not match the search expression. Furthermore, media asset identifiers corresponding to media assets that match the search expression are distinguished from each other based on an attribute of each media asset that matches the search expression.

Abstract

Systems and methods for shadow detection and reduction during document capture are disclosed herein. Temporary images of hardcopy documents are analyzed to determine the presence of a shadow or hotspot that obscures information of the hardcopy document. In response to detecting the shadow or hotspot, a controllable light source is used to illuminate the hardcopy document at predicted and/or predetermined intensities to minimize or eliminate the shadow on the hardcopy document. A permanent image of the hardcopy document illuminated by the controllable light source at the intensity that minimizes or eliminates the shadow is then stored. In this way, information of the hardcopy document (such as text, color, layout, spacing etc.) is increased in the permanent image and a need for post-processing the permanent image is reduced or eliminated.

Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for optimizing bandwidth for broadcast transmission. The disclosed techniques herein provide for receiving first and second content for transmission to subscriber devices on a first and second channels. The system then determines whether the first and second content contain a common segment. If so, the system updates metadata schema (e.g., homogeneous channel descriptor, homogeneous switch descriptor) to indicate there is a common segment. The system may generate a transport stream during multiplexing of the first and second channels based on the updated metadata schema. The transport stream, for a time duration based on the at least one common segment, includes a first audio feed of the first content and a first video feed of the first content to be provided on the second channel. The system then transmits the transport stream to the one or more subscriber devices.

Abstract

A system and method for improving media delivery and display. By utilizing a memory buffer in a DVR or similar device, and broadcasting linear content at a rate other than 1×, services like video on demand or regular broadcasters can be more versatile. For example viewers can start over without launching a separate VOD session. If part of the linear content requested is not in the buffer, a switched multicast stream can be sent to with the proper section of content. Other receivers on the network may also receive the stream and buffer the content if the content is related to what a viewer is viewing.

In response to the system detecting that the first avatar has entered a portion of the XR environment at a communicable distance from a second avatar, the system does the following steps. The system determines an offensiveness rating of the first avatar. The system retrieves, from the storage, an offensiveness tolerance of the second avatar. The system compares the offensiveness rating of the first avatar and offensiveness tolerance of the second avatar. In response to determining, based on the comparing, that the offensiveness rating of the first avatar exceeds the offensiveness tolerance of the second avatar, the system automatically censors one or more messages from the first avatar to the second avatar.

Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for generating for presentation information about an event on a device that is in a mode of operation that prevents presentation of information about events. This may be accomplished by a media guidance application that receives a command, on a user device associated with a first user, to place the user device in a do not disturb mode. The media guidance application receives, while the user device is in the do not disturb mode, information about an event and determines whether the event is relevant to the user. The media guidance application then determines whether the event is trending among a plurality of users associated with the user and, if trending, displays, while the user device is in the do not disturb mode, a notification about the event to the user on the user device.

Abstract

A sidelink connection is created between each device of a plurality of devices. A first device connected to a content source retrieves a manifest file for the media from the content source. The first device then notifies other devices, including a second device not connected to the content source, that the manifest file is available from the first device. Based on connection metrics of each device, it is determined which of the devices has the highest quality connection to the content source. If, for example, the first device is determined to have the highest quality connection, then the first devices retrieves a segment of the media from the content source, stores the segment in a cache of the first device, and delivers the segment to other devices in response to requests for the segment received from each device.

Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed to mitigate stalling of streaming content due to rebuffering so that, e.g., the content consumer does not experience gaps in playback. In some embodiments, by buffering streaming content simultaneously at two bitrate levels—e.g., one of the lowest bitrates and a better-quality bitrate, within the bandwidth limitations—rebuffering-caused gaps in playback of a higher quality (HQ) stream may be filled with a lower quality (LQ) stream. For instance, client-side dual buffers may store n segments from the HQ stream during a given time and a multiple of n number of segments from the LQ stream, thus allowing for many of the LQ segments to be output if the HQ stream is rebuffering. If a segment of content is beginning to be played back as an LQ segment, there is no reason to buffer the same segment from the HQ stream. Moreover, after a segment of content is played back (or decoded) as either HQ or LQ, the corresponding HQ segment and/or LQ segment may be discarded from the dual buffer, e.g., to create buffer space for upcoming segments.

Abstract

A sidelink connection is created between each device of a plurality of devices. If the sidelink connection quality is not sufficient to transmit a first version of a segment encoded at a first quality level, a lower quality version of the segment may also be retrieved. The lower quality version of the segment may be retrieved by a different device than the device that retrieved the first version of the segment. If the segment is requested from a first device by a second device and the sidelink connection between the first device and the second device is not sufficient to transmit the first version of the segment, the first device may cause transmission of the lower quality version of the segment retrieved by a third device to the second device.

A number of zones are defined within a location, each zone corresponding to a different physical area within the location. A weighting factor is then assigned to each zone. A number of content items are identified for display in the AR display based on user preferences. Using the weighting factors and content item priority data determined from user preference data, each content item is assigned to a zone. The AR display then renders the content items in each zone.

Abstract

A location is mapped to identify a number of zones, and content items are identified for assignment to the zones. Selection of a zone for each content item may be received from the user, or content items may be assigned to zones automatically as described above. Identifiers of each content item and indicators of the selected zone for each content item are then stored as an AR display configuration associated with the location. In response to detecting that the AR display device is being used at the location, the AR display configuration is retrieved and resolved on the AR display device.

Abstract

The system trains a machine learning model using a loss function, with a part that penalizes overall signal loss, and a second part of the loss function that penalizes texture loss. The system computes a first neural feature of a first media frame stored by a media server using the trained machine learning model. The system causes a client device to receive a second media frame as a part of a media stream from the media server where the second frame is a modified version of the first media frame. The system causes the client to compute a second neural feature of the second media frame using the trained machine learning model, and compute a QoE metric based on the first neural feature and the second neural feature. The system receives the QoE metric, and uses it to modify at least one parameter of the media stream.

Abstract

Systems and methods are presented herein for enabling a vehicle, configured to support autonomous vehicle operation, to change a location of the vehicle based on the detection of an impending impact with the vehicle. A starting location of the vehicle is determined while the vehicle is parked, unoccupied, and comprises an inactive powertrain. In response to determining a watchdog state is enabled, data corresponding to the location is accessed from within a threshold distance of the vehicle. An identifier and a trajectory of an object is determined. In response to determining that the trajectory corresponds to an impact path with the vehicle, an evasive route for the vehicle is determined that terminates at a safe location not subjected to the impending impact. An instruction to activate the vehicle powertrain and an autonomous mode of the vehicle to execute the identified evasive route is transmitted for the vehicle to process.

Abstract

Systems and methods for rendering a 3D image are provided. The system receives texture and depth data (depth map) for an image. The system generates, based on the image data, a plurality of folded focal planes matrices. For each respective pixel matrix, the system preprocesses pixel values in the respective focal pixel plane matrix to generate a respective preprocessed matrix, wherein the respective preprocessed matrix clusters together pixel values of the respective folded focal plane matrix based on the depth data for the image. The system generates phase functions based on a plurality of the preprocessed matrices. The system configures a spatial light modulator of the SLM device in accordance with the generated phase functions. The system then provides the plurality of the preprocessed matrices as input to the SLM device to generate for display a 3D representation of the received image data.

Abstract

Systems and methods are described for disambiguating user input based on a physical location of items in a vicinity of a user. The system determines that a query received from a user contains an ambiguity. In response, the system identifies several items in the physical vicinity of the user. Then, the system analyzes the identified plurality of items to determine whether the plurality of items forms a first ensemble of items or a second ensemble of items. If the plurality of items forms a first ensemble of items, the system performs a search using the search query and a first keyword related to the first ensemble of items. If the plurality of items forms a second ensemble of items, the system performs a search using the search query and a second keyword related to the second ensemble of items. The system then outputs results of the performed search.
