Abstract

A system for predicting failure of an HVAC fan motor unit includes a fan motor controller for measuring a time duration between reception of the deactivation signal from the control circuitry and speed of a fan reaching zero rotations per minute (RPM). The measured time duration is then transmitted to the control circuitry. The control circuitry stores a set of test time durations characterizing a working fan motor unit. During operation, the control circuitry periodically transmits an activation signal or a deactivation signal to the fan motor controller. The control circuitry receives and compares the measured time duration from the fan motor controller with a test time duration to generate a delta time duration variable. Subsequently, the control circuitry determines if the generated delta time duration variable exceeds a threshold time duration and predicts a failure time duration for the generated delta time duration to reach the threshold time duration.

Abstract

A system for smoke/fire discrimination and identification of the fire source is provided. The system comprises a control unit that is configured to receive data pertaining to gases present in the smoke generated by a burning material and receive data pertaining to temporal characteristics of fire caused by the burning material. The control unit identifies the burning material based on the data pertaining to the one or more gas and the data pertaining to temporal characteristics of fire; and trigger a fire event based on the identified burning material. The control unit identifies and classifies the burning material as one of the known burning materials based on matching of the detected gas and the captured temporal characteristics with the database.

Abstract

A ventilator having a functionality to defrost a ventilator core includes a two sets of ports, one set used for coupling of the ventilator with ducting and other used for redirecting indoor air flowing along a first flowpath through the recovery core to a second flow path normally used for outdoor air. A re-circulator is removably fixed between an inlet for outdoor air and an outlet for indoor air of the set of ports not coupled to the ducting. A pair of dampers, operated by a single motor, allow the ventilator to be operated in a mode that enables redirection of the indoor air from the first flowpath to the second flowpath, simultaneously blocking inflow of the outdoor air.

A method of testing temperature sensors of refrigerated cargo spaces, comprising: installing a wireless temperature sensor in proximity of a cargo space temperature sensor of a refrigerated cargo space; receiving, at a data processing device, temperature data from both the cargo space temperature sensor and the wireless temperature sensor; calculating a temperature difference between the temperature measured by the cargo space temperature sensor and the wireless temperature sensor; and calibrating or replacing the cargo space temperature sensor if the temperature difference exceeds a threshold difference.

Abstract

A method for operating a heat pump (20; 300) includes operating in a cooling mode wherein heat is absorbed by refrigerant in the indoor heat exchanger (26) and rejected by refrigerant in the outdoor heat exchanger (24). The heat pump switches to operation in a heating mode wherein heat is rejected by refrigerant in the indoor heat exchanger, heat is absorbed by refrigerant in the outdoor heat exchanger, and there is an ejector (60) motive flow and ejector secondary flow. In the heating mode a refrigerant pressure (PH) or temperature (TL) is measured and, responsive to the measured refrigerant pressure or temperature, at least one of a fan speed is changed and a needle (132) of the ejector is actuated.
