Abstract

Described herein are aspherical hollow silica particles, processes for making aspherical hollow silica particles, and uses of aspherical hollow silica particles in sun care compositions. To form the aspherical hollow silica particles, deposition of a silica shell on a calcium carbonate template using a sol-gel chemistry is employed. Subsequent dissolution of the calcium carbonate template forms voids (e.g., a hollow interior) in the aspherical hollow silica particles.

Abstract

The present invention provides a dry mix composition of a low-viscosity cellulose ether (50 to 750 mPa·s at 1 wt. % solids, at 20 C, and a 514 s-1 shear rate, using a strain-controlled rotational rheometer (for example, ARES-G2™, TA Instruments), a graded aggregate, and a hydraulic cement, or a granular wet cement composition of the cement, graded aggregate and an admixture therefor including the cellulose ether. The wet granular hydraulic cement composition behaves like asphalt compositions and has zero or near zero slump, a high lubricity and from 5 wt. % to less than 13 wt. % of water, or, preferably from greater than 5 to 10.5 wt. %, based on the total weight of the granular wet cement composition. The low-viscosity cellulose ether enables lubricity without impairing compaction and without causing air entrainment.

Abstract

The present invention provides modified urea formaldehyde (UF) resin binder compositions and mineral fiber mats having an emulsion polymer modifier comprising, in copolymerized form, from 5 to 25 wt. % of co polymerized carboxylic acid functional monomers. The emulsion polymers have a measured glass transition temperature (DSC) ranging from −40° C. to 70° C. and a large average particle size. Further, the emulsion polymers comprise less than 30% of the copolymerized acid in neutralized form and do not excessively thicken aqueous compositions containing them. The modified UF resin binder compositions enable good dilution stability in use and high tensile strength in products containing them.
