A positioning estimate for a user equipment (UE) is determined based on a combination of uplink-based positioning and downlink-based positioning. Positioning measurements based on downlink signals and uplink signals can be utilized to determine the positioning estimate. The positioning estimate may be computed by the UE or a node of a wireless communications network. This positioning scheme can include two parts, where a first part and second part are either uplink-based or downlink-based, but the two parts are different from each other. Positioning measurements performed in the first part may be sent along with reference signals in the second part.

For idle mode positioning, a user equipment (UE) is configured with positioning resources being usable by the UE while in idle mode. The positioning resources can include uplink resources to support uplink-based positioning, downlink resources to support downlink-based positioning, or both to support a combination of uplink-based and downlink-based positioning. The positioning resources can be utilized to transmit uplink references signals, downlink reference signals, or both. A positioning estimate is computed based on positioning measurements of the reference signals.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR COMMUNICATING RADIO ACCESS TECHNOLOGY CHARACTERISTICS
A wireless communication network (102) can employ techniques for the network (102) to indicate specific radio access characteristics to be used by a user equipment (100) 5 when responding to a paging message. The network (102) can indicate a specific radio access technology (RAT) that the UE (100) should use when connecting to the network (102). In this manner, the UE (100) can initiate a connection using the desired RAT rather than first initiating a connection with an incorrect RAT and performing a handover or network reconfiguration.
For uplink-based positioning, a transmission of an uplink reference signal via a transmit beam at a user equipment (UE) (100) is coordinated with a respective receive beams at one or more receivers (110). A positioning computation node (105) sends configuration information to the UE (100) and to the one or more receivers (110). The configuration information enables the receivers (110) to configure receive beams (111) to receive the uplink reference signal transmission from the UE (100). The receivers (110) perform various measurements of the uplink reference signal and report the measurements as well as beam information to the positioning computation node (105), which generates a position estimate.

The RAN node (130) is further configured to determine that the user equipment (100) is unavailable while in an inactive state, and transmit a message to the core network (104). The message can include at least one of an identification of the user equipment (100), an identification of a Protocol Data Unit (PDU) session associated with the radio link, or an indication of whether the downlink data has been dropped or will be delivered to the user equipment (100).
A wireless communications device (100) includes a wireless interface (122) for conducting wireless communications with one or more network nodes (110) of a wireless communications network (102). An embodiment is a technique to collect network and device information. A request for local information is responded to. The request is sent by a remote node in an ad hoc home mesh network. A first node listed in a local route table is queried for node information of the first node. Querying is expanded to a second node in the ad hoc home mesh network using the node information. The second node is a neighbor of the first node.
A near field communication (NFC) sticker which stores a key is attached to a new client device. A remote commander in a home network reads the key using a NFC interface and IR-transmits it to a home network server. Once the client is connected to the network, it encrypts its own device information with the key and sends the encrypted information to the server, which decrypts the data with the key sent from the remote commander. In this way, client device registration is executed easily and securely.
An embodiment is a technique to perform network-based traffic recognition and packet classification. A port identifier in a transport layer header of a packet having a packet type associated with a priority level is extracted. The packet is transmitted from or to an application according to a network protocol in a multi-hop mesh network having a local node and a remote node. The port identifier includes a port number. The packet is classified into the packet type using the port identifier and one of a pre-defined port list, a dynamic port table, and an application header of the application.
A method and apparatus for maintaining smooth video transition between distinct applications includes a processor, a secondary memory and a system memory. In providing a smooth transition between applications, the apparatus and method provides synchronization of the video and graphics components while transitioning from a first application to a second application. If there is no video component in either application, no action is needed to provide a smooth transition between applications, and when only the first application includes a video component, the video component need only be turned off for smooth transition between the applications to occur. When both the first application and the second application include video components, smooth transition between the applications is dependent upon the display window size of the first application in comparison to the second application. A process is triggered according to the size of the display windows of the first and second applications.

When a person arrives home with his mobile phone, the phone sends a presence signal via Bluetooth to the TV system in the home, which enables a telephone feature in which phone calls to the phone are relayed to the TV system. The remote control associated with the TV has a microphone and speaker so that a person can use the RC not only to control the TV but also to respond to phone calls, with the TV system relaying voice signals from the RC back to the phone.
An audio indication of a message recipient is received from a user who desires that a message be sent to the message recipient. The audio indication is analyzed to determine the recipient and searching an electronic database for an account of the recipient. Information is retrieved from the electronic account. The retrieved information indicates at one or more modes of message delivery to the recipient. An audio guide for the user based is constructed upon the retrieved information. A wireless intelligent switch engine (WISE) is described. The wireless intelligent switch engine provides for automatic switching between different physical wireless interfaces in mobile devices while roaming to maintain a wireless network connection. WISE functions as a bridge between a mobile device and multiple wireless network interfaces to provide automatic and seamless switching among networks while roaming. The mobile device sees WISE as a LAN interface and communicates with WISE using the TCP/IP protocol stack, thus providing a PPP-less configuration that uses the TCP/IP protocol stack regardless of the wireless interface.

Offloading processing of images from a portable digital camera
Images are offloaded from a portable camera automatically to a network server at the time the images are taken, transparently to a user of the camera. The server executes processing functions on the images and returns the output of the processing over the network to the camera and/or other user-defined destination device to thereby relieve the camera processor of potentially complex processing chores.
The system provides different ways for users to select an object and an action to be applied to the object in computer applications such as image processing or digital post-production. The user can select an object first and then an action, or vice versa. The user can also use gestural input to designate both an object and action virtually simultaneously. Multiple view, or windows, of an image can be independently sized, zoomed, panned, etc. Any effects performed on the image appear in all of the windows since each window shows (potentially) different portions of the same image content. A navigation window helps a user move within a large image or diagram that does not fit entirely on a single display screen. The navigation window includes an inner box that shows, in miniature, the principal objects in the screen display.
