A method for reducing 'blow-out' of annular welds for attaching press-fit components in a fuel injector assembly (100) is disclosed. The method employs a multi-step welding procedure whereby a first annular weld bead (281a) that corresponds to less than 360° of rotation of the assembly about a longitudinal axis leaves a radial void that is thereafter sealed with a second annular weld bead (281b) . In an alternative embodiment, a relief region is formed on radially-facing surfaces of the components, the relief region (291) being disposed adjacent to a press-fit region(292) . A sealed gap (295) is thereby formed in the relief region (291) between the welds (281) and the press-fit region (292) . The sealed gap (295) provides a further means for expansion of trapped gases that could otherwise 'blow out' the liquid weld bead.

A surface (28) receives the polarized light from the second layer and at least partially reflects the polarized light in a direction toward the second layer. The second layer shifts the second orientation of the polarized light to a third orientation (68) that is different from the polarizing orientation of the first layer to prevent the polarized light from being transmitted to a vehicle occupant.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DETERMINING FLASH SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY WITH HARDWARE
A method of determining compatibility between a hardware device and a software application includes the step of initializing a boot loader application. Initialization of the boot loader application includes verifying the presence and validity of a software application. Once the software application has been validated by the boot loader application, control is transferred to the software application. The software application determines compatibility by checking a hardware identifier stored in a substantially permanent memory location. If the hardware identifier matches the software application, the software application operates normally. If the hardware identifier does not match the software application, control of the hardware device is transferred back to the boot loader application for reprogramming with a compatible program.
A fuel injector includes an orifice disc (140). The orifice disc (140) includes a peripheral portion (140b), a central portion (140a), and an orifice (14b). The peripheral portion (140b) is with respect to a longitudinal axis (200) and extends parallel to a base plane (150). The peripheral portion (140b) bounds the central portion (140a). The central portion (140a) includes a facet (143a) that extends parallel to a plane (152) that is oblique with respect to the base plane (150). The orifice (148) penetrates the facet (143a) and extends along an orifice axis (202) that is oblique with respect to the plane (152). As such, the orientation of the orifice (148) with respect to the longitudinal axis (200) is defined by a combination of (1) a first relationship of the plane (152) with respect to the base plane (150), and (2) a second relationship of the orifice axis (202) with respect to the plane (152). A method of forming a multi-facetted dimple (142) for the orifice disc (140) is also described.
An asymmetrical (50) tool is provided to form an asymmetric orifice (32) for an orifice disc (140). The asymmetric orifice (32) is initially formed with a wall portion extending generally perpendicular to first and second generally parallel surfaces of the orifice disc (140). The wall of the orifice (32) is deformed by the tool into an inlet portion contiguous to the first surface and a transition portion spaced from the first surface. The transition portion of the wall extends substantially perpendicular to the first and second generally planar surfaces. The inlet portion of the wall extends at a first oblique angle with respect to the first surface, and the first oblique angle varying with respect to the longitudinal axis. A method of forming the orifice (32) with the tool (50) is described.
