This air conditioner comprises: a refrigerant circuit in which a refrigerant circulates through a freezing cycle via a compressor, a condenser, an outdoor expansion valve, and an evaporator in the stated order; and a control unit that controls at least the compressor and the outdoor expansion valve. One of the condenser and the evaporator is an outdoor heat exchanger, and the other is an indoor heat exchanger. The control unit causes the indoor heat exchanger to function as an evaporator, and during a freezing process for freezing the indoor heat exchanger, the control unit performs a liquid compression prevention control (step S24) when a first condition is met (Yes in step S21), and cancels the liquid compression prevention control (step S26) when a second condition is met during the liquid compression prevention control (Yes in step S25).
