Abstract

A case for an electronic device includes a front member having an aperture for interacting with a touchscreen of the electronic device and a back member that includes a rechargeable power cell, a switched electrical interface, an electromechanical switch, and current monitoring circuitry. The switched electrical interface has an enabled mode in which electrical current is permitted to flow from the rechargeable power cell of the case to the installed electronic device and a disabled mode in which the electrical current is not permitted to flow to the installed electronic device. The electromechanical switch transitions the switched electrical interface from the disabled mode to the enabled mode. The current monitoring circuitry automatically toggles the switched electrical interface from the enabled mode to the disabled mode when the magnitude of the electrical current flowing from the case to the electronic device decreases to a predetermined value.

Abstract

A removable case for an electronic device may have an acoustic isolation mechanism between the removable case and an acoustic component on the electronic device. The acoustic isolation mechanism may be a compressible component that may provide an acoustic seal between an inner surface of the removable case and an exterior surface of the electronic device, and may include a waterproof acoustic membrane. The waterproof membrane prevents the entry of water while reacting to sound pressure changes to acoustically couple the electronic device with sounds outside the case. The acoustic isolation mechanism may be constructed of several different materials and several different manufacturing processes.

Abstract

Disclosed is a protective cover 400 for an electronic device that is made from an elastomeric material that simultaneously provides cushioning that would otherwise be provided by a softer, thicker material, while utilizing a single, denser material that provides a slim profile and has sufficient density to conform well to the electronic device and prevent the transmission of impacts with hard surfaces directly to the electronic device. Although a denser material is used for the protective cover, recesses 402, 404, 406, 408 are formed in thicker portions 504 at impact points that create compressible ribs 418. The ribs provide softer, cushioned portions of the cover in the impact areas 118, which are capable of absorbing the shock and energy of impacts. Other protective covers have a uniform thickness.
