First and second level discovery messages for device-to-device discovery are determined to be going to be transmitted, resource(s) are requested for transmission of at least the second level discovery message, and allocated resource(s) of a second type are received. The first level discovery message is transmitted on either a selected resource of the first type or a selected one of the allocated resource(s). The second level discovery message is transmitted on a selected one of the more allocated resource(s) of the second type, A first level discovery message is received on a resource of either a first type or a second type. It is determined whether the received message is of interest or not and if the message is of interest, then it is determined whether a second level discovery message is available and if so, the second level discovery message is received on a resource of the second type.

Abstract

Mechanisms are described for correlating environmental data (such as data regarding object settings) with performance data (such as data regarding a result of a predefined activity). The performance data may be analyzed to determine whether the result of the predefined activity can be considered a predetermined aspirational result (e.g., a result that the user desires to achieve), such that the user would want to obtain the same result the next time the user performs the same activity. In the event the result is a predetermined aspirational result, the object or objects that contributed to the predetermined aspirational result may be identified, such as by correlating the performance data with the environmental data to determine the relationship between the two. The object settings for the identified objects may also be identified.

The devices, systems, and methods establish a communication link with a target device, cause information to be transferred to the target device via the communication link, and cause an indication of a level of the information transferred to be provided to a user during transfer of the information such that the user is provided with a real time indication of the level of information that has been transferred prior to transfer of a maximum level of information that is transferrable.

Abstract

Optimized procedures and signaling for the reporting of mobility information may benefit various communication systems. For example, communication systems of the third generation partnership project (3GPP) may benefit from signaling details of user equipment (UE) mobility information related to idle and connected mode. For example, a method can include determining that a cell global identification is missing for a cell to be reported in a cell history report. The method can also include reporting the cell to a network as missing any cell global identification.

Abstract

A user equipment is initially camped on an LTE/E-UTRAN cell (205). An eNodeB informs (210) the UE to return after circuit-switched fall-back, CSFB, and optionally provides re-direction/re-selection information. The UE then performs a CSFB (215) with a NodeB of a legacy network cell, such as GERAN/UTRAN/CDMA2000 cell. Upon release of the CSFB connection (220), the UE uses (230) the received re-direction information to identify a best cell candidate in LTE, and select back (235) to the LTE/E-UTRAN carrier.

Abstract

Improved systems and techniques for communication in an environment in which muting of resources is used to avoid interference between cells. If a cell, represented by a macro eNB for example, is muting resources, those resources can be made available, under appropriate conditions, to user devices, such as UEs, engaging in device to device communication. Allocation of muted resources to D2D UEs can be based on meeting of conditions, such as that the D2D UEs be outside of a specified proximity to a cell, such as a small cell, using the resources, or that the D2D UEs transmit at less than a specified power. The UEs may take measurements to determine if the conditions are met and report the measurements to their base stations, which then determine whether to allocate the muted resources and configure the UEs with resource allocation information.

Abstract

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to facilitate interworking a plurality of cellular radio access networks and wireless local area networks (WLANs). In the context of a method, a set of information is maintained for a plurality of different cellular radio access networks that defines a relative priority of selection among the cellular radio access networks. The method also includes maintaining wireless access selection information defining a relative priority of selection among one or more WLANs relative to the cellular radio access networks. The method also permits the relative priority of the WLANs to be modified without modification of the set of information. For example, the relative priority the WLANs may be modified in a manner specific to the user equipment or specific to a cell. The method may also include causing notification to be provided to user equipment of the set of information and the wireless access selection information.

Abstract

A method, apparatus and software related product (e.g., a computer readable memory) for efficient measurement reporting by UEs to provide, for example, lower UE power consumption, efficient use of network resources, small cell ottloading, etc., in wireless networks such as LTE/LTE-A systems that can be also applied in inter-system cases such as a mix of UTRAN and E-UTRAN as one non-limiting example is presented. The UE performs measurements and event evaluation as in conventional LTE/LTE-A systems, but for certain cells/carriers an event triggered measurement report, which conventionally would be transmitted when time-to-trigger (TTT) expires (see details e.g. in 3GPP TS 36.331), is not transmitted but regarded as buffered (e.g., in a memory or buffered memory of the UE) as a candidate measurement report, when a predefined criterion is not met. This predefined criterion is e.g. a need at the UE to request network resources for uplink transmission by the UE. Thus, a UE being in connected mode but not actively transmitting data, will not report measurements resulting in likely handovers.

The method includes dividing a RS space into at least a first region and a second region. The method also includes allocating, from the first region, a DM- RS sequence CS and/or a DM-RS comb for a DM-RS; and allocating, from the second region, a SRS sequence CS and/or a SRS comb for a SRS. The DM-RS and the SRS are on the same resources on an uplink shared channel (such as a PUSCH for example). The RS space comprises at least one of a CS set and a IFDM comb set. The CS set and/or the IFDM comb set of the first region is based at least in part on a number of physical resource blocks allocated to the uplink shared channel. Apparatus and computer readable media are also described.

Abstract

According to an example embodiment of this application, a method may include determining, at a first radio access technology, at lease one difference between the characteristics of the first radio access technology and the characteristics of a second radio access technology; processing a data sequence of the first radio access technology by taking into account the at least one difference; and generating a second data sequence based on the processing for transmission to an apparatus of the second radio access technology.

Abstract

Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for discontinuous reception (DRX) are provided. One method may include configuring a user equipment with a first inactivity timer and a second inactivity timer. The user equipment may be further configured, after decoding a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) indicating a new data transmission, to start the first inactivity timer for a first N times of active time, and to start the second inactivity timer for times subsequent to the first N times. If a short DRX cycle is configured, expiry of the first inactivity timer does not start a short discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle, while expiry of the second inactivity timer starts the short discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle.

Abstract

Method and apparatus for transferring calls in a home cloud to a user equipment that is currently in use. The home cloud is a wireless local network using WiFi or Buetooth. The method includes receiving, at a first user equipment, a call made via a cellular network to a subscriber identity associated with the first user equipment; and routing, by the first user equipment, the call to a second user equipment to enable the second user equipment to answer the call received from a cellular network. The second user equipment being designated by a controller of a wireless local area network as an active device or in use within the wireless local area network which enables the first user equipment to forward the call to the second user equipment which is more convenient for the user to receive the call.

Abstract

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, are provided for reversible handovers. In one aspect there is provided a method. The method may include starting a timeout period in response to an event associated with a handover of a user equipment from a source cell to a target cell; and waiting, until an expiration of the timeout period, to detach from the source cell to enable the user equipment to perform a reverse handover back to the source cell. Related apparatus, systems, methods, and articles are also described.
