Abstract

Technologies are generally described for passively powering wireless IoT devices. An actively powered transmitter may transmit a radio frequency (RF) signal over a common channel and information associated with parameters of a reply signal to various passively powered wireless devices. The wireless devices may extract power from the RF signal or other signals in the ambient environment, use the extracted power to perform operations, and backscatter a reply signal over a different channel defined by the RF signal. The reply signal from the passively powered wireless devices may be received by a base station or an actively powered device in the vicinity and forwarded to the base station. Various multiplexing schemes may be employed to prevent collision of reply signals from the passively powered wireless devices.

Abstract

A microfluidic pump with thermal control. The microfluidic pump employs a fluid motivation mechanism that moves microscopic fluid volumes through a conduit using thermal vapor bubbles generated using supercritical heating. Aspects of the microfluidic pump include the use of a pump temperature controller that monitors temperatures associated with the microfluidic pump and slows or pauses operation of the microfluidic pump to reduce the rate at which heat is generated allowing additional time for heat to be passively dissipated. Controlling the upper microfluidic pump temperature prevents or reduces overheating of the fluid being pumped that renders the fluid less suitable or unsuitable for its intended purpose or harm to the microfluidic pump. Other aspects of the pump temperature controller include an optional substrate heater that helps raise the fluid temperature to a selected operational range for better performance of the fluid and/or the microfluidic pump.

Abstract

A printhead assembly (1) for an inkjet printer has a ink filter tower (14) portion that contains filtered ink and includes multiple, substantially parallel extending elements. Settling of ink in an ink filter tower (14) could clog the printhead nozzles and lessen the print quality. Therefore, in order to prevent the settling of the ink in the ink filter tower (14) of the present design, a free-floating weighted slider is installed within the ink filter tower (14). The weighted slider has a top bridging member (88) and downward-pointing shafts that are movable within trenches formed between the extending elements. During a reciprocating motion of the printhead assembly (1), the slider moves in a direction opposite to the direction of the printhead assembly (1) and thereby agitates the ink within the tower. In addition to sliding from side to side of the printhead assembly (1), the slider may also be designed to pivot about an upper axis as it moves to further agitate the ink.

Abstract

The image device effectively eliminates unevenness in the brightness of the image, while reducing local speckle noise that remains as a result of laser scanning that accompanies fluctuations in scanning speed. For a center pixel (P512), a waveform pattern (PT2) consisting of an on interval and an off interval in a pixel display interval (T2) is selected. For side pixels (P0,P1023), which are scanned at a slower scanning speed than the center pixel (P512), a waveform pattern (PT1) consisting of an on interval and an off interval in a pixel display interval (T1), which is longer than the pixel display interval (T2), is selected. Here, the on interval in the waveform pattern (PT1) is segmented more than the on interval in the waveform pattern (PT1), such that the time ratio of the on interval accounting for the waveform pattern (PT1) is smaller than the time ratio of the on interval accounting for a waveform pattern (PT2).

Abstract

In a drive method that enables more stable switching operations, a memory element (10) is equipped with an insulating substrate (1) provided with a first electrode (2), a second electrode (3), and an electrode gap portion (4) for generating a resistance change phenomenon between the first electrode and the second electrode. By applying to the memory element a first voltage pulse from a pulse generation source for shifting the memory element from a predetermined low resistance status to a predetermined high resistance status, and a second voltage pulse for shifting from the high resistance status to the low resistance status via a serially connected resistor, the current flowing to the memory element after the change to the low resistance value is reduced. The drive method is characterised in that the voltage pulse is applied so that the electrical resistance between the memory elements from the pulse generation source is higher when shifting from the high resistance status to the low resistance status, than when shifting from the low resistance status to the high resistance status.

Abstract

Provided is a image display device whereby a residual localized spectrum noise due to the scanning of a laser beam associated with the variations in scanning speed is effectively reduced and the image quality of the whole image is improved. The laser light source outputs, within an image pixel display interval which is set to be longer with a slowing of the scanning speed, a laser beam at an output level Lc corresponding to a display gradient for an image pixel in accordance with a prescribed wave pattern (PT). The wave pattern (PT) is set such that a specific relaxation oscillation frequency for the laser beam source is more largely generated with a slowing of the scanning speed (Vh). A scanning mirror reflects and projects onto a projection surface the laser beam output from the laser beam source as a function of the deflection angle of the scanning mirror and in accordance with a prescribed scanning sequence.
