Abstract

A fixing unit or device that can be used in an image forming apparatus includes a first heater element that is formed of a material that increases in electrical resistance with increases in temperature. A controller of the fixing unit is configured to vary a duty ratio of electric power applied to the first heater element during a start-up operation in which the temperature of the first heater element is raised to a target operating temperature. By varying the duty ratio during the start-up operation, changes in the resistance of the first heater element with the heating can be compensated. For example, the duty ratio can be increased during the course of the start-up to achieve the target operating temperature faster.

Abstract

A reading apparatus includes a mechanism to move an antenna between first and second positions, and a controller configured to: (a) control the antenna to transmit radio waves to wireless tags each attached to an object when the antenna is between the first and second positions; acquire, from response waves, information registered in each tag and indicating attributes of the object and the tag, and signal values of the response waves; and calculate an estimated position of each tag and a reliability level thereof based on the values. When the level of the position of a tag is less than a threshold or when the information of a tag indicates an attribute that can affect radio communications, the controller performs step (a) again, acquires signal values of response waves received from the tag, and calculates an estimated position of the tag and a reliability level thereof based on the values.

Abstract

A seating detection device includes a sensor, a coupler, a power supply, a switch, and a controller. The sensor forms an electric field to detect a change in an electrostatic capacitance. The coupler couples the sensor to a chair. The power supply supplies power for forming the electric field to the sensor. The switch controls transmission of power from the power supply to the sensor. After the switch is turned on, the controller sets a seating threshold based on the change in electrostatic capacitance detected by the sensor. The seating threshold represents a threshold amount of electrostatic capacitance. The controller determines whether an occupant is seated on the chair based on the seating threshold.

Abstract

An image forming apparatus includes an instruction-information acquiring unit, a translation-result-information acquiring unit, a font-data acquiring unit, an image-formation control unit, and an image forming unit. The instruction-information acquiring unit acquires information indicating a first character string described in a first language and information indicating a second language different from the first language. The translation-result-information acquiring unit acquires, from a translation service provision server, information indicating a second character string, which is a character string obtained by translating the first character string into the second language. The font-data acquiring unit acquires font data of the second language from a font data distribution server. The image-formation control unit generates a synthetic image obtained by adding the second character string having a font based on the font data to a formation target image.

Abstract

An image forming apparatus is an image forming apparatus equipped with an exposure device including a plurality of light emitting points, and includes a photoconductor and a processor. The photoconductor forms a latent image of an image to be formed on the surface thereof by the light emitted from a plurality of light emitting points of the exposure device. The processor controls the light emission of each of the plurality of light emitting points of the exposure device based on the image to be formed. The processor calculates a fourth correction coefficient by changing a third correction coefficient, which is calculated based on a first correction coefficient for correcting a first physical quantity related to the exposure condition of the photoconductor by the light emitting point, and a second correction coefficient for correcting a second physical quantity related to the exposure condition of the photoconductor by the light emitting point, and is between the first correction coefficient and the second correction coefficient, based on the light emission time set according to the gradation of the image to be formed, and corrects the light output of each of the plurality of light emitting points by the fourth correction coefficient.

Abstract

A system and method of a system provides for tracking and controlling print cartridge ownership transfers using non-fungible tokens (NFTs). A print cartridge manufacture creates a unique NFT for each manufactured print cartridge that is stored on a public blockchain. Each NFT is encoded with a serial number of its associated cartridge, along with manufacturer information stored in the manufacturer's digital certificate. Each NFT may include manufacturer information, transactional information and a smart contract. Sale or resale of a cartridge is accomplished by a sale of its associated NFT on a digital marketplace. Sales are governed by smart contract terms. A buyer scans a cartridge QR code to decode its serial number which is then used to lookup manufacturer information, cartridge information and transactional information. If a purchase permitted and is accepted, the buyer information and sale information are updated to the blockchain with the associated NFT which is placed in the possession of the buyer.

Abstract

A pre-feed system and method for a liner-less label printer includes a drive roller that is configured to peel liner-less labels from a reel and pass print stock comprising the labels to an in-line label printer at a consistent rate. An idler roller disposed in proximity to the drive roller creates a nip for pulling labels from the reel. Label stock is fed to one or more print heads while supported by a support plate comprising projections extending from a planar surface, contacting an adhesive side of the labels. The projections are aligned in rows substantially perpendicular to a travel direction of the moving print stock and in a plurality of columns substantially parallel to the travel direction of the moving print stock, with projections on alternate rows offset from projections on adjacent rows and projections on alternate columns offset from projections on adjacent columns.

Abstract

A cassette drawing-in device in an embodiment includes a lever, a guide section, and an urging member. The lever includes an engaging groove opened on a first side in a first direction. The engaging groove includes an entrance for a cassette pin at an end portion in a longitudinal direction. The cassette pin projects to a second side in the first direction from a cassette. The cassette is capable of moving in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction. The lever rotates around the rotation axis to thereby draw in, in the second direction, the cassette pin engaging in the engaging groove. The guide section is formed in the entrance of the engaging groove and guides the cassette pin to the first side in the first direction. The urging member urges the lever to the first side in the first direction.

Abstract

An image processing apparatus in an embodiment includes an apparatus main body, a paper feeding cassette, a drawing-in mechanism, and a restricting member. The paper feeding cassette is inserted into the apparatus main body to be capable of being drawn out in a first orientation along a first direction. The drawing-in mechanism draws the paper feeding cassette into the apparatus main body up to a drawing-in completion position along a second orientation. The restricting member restricts the paper feeding cassette present in the drawing-in completion position from being displaced in the second orientation. If the paper feeding cassette is not connected to the drawing-in mechanism even if the paper feeding cassette is pushed in up to the drawing-in completion position, the restricting member is displaced from the predetermined position to allow the paper feeding cassette to be displaced in the second orientation with respect to the apparatus main body.
