Systems and methods for automatic enrollment and identity verification based upon processing a captured image of a document are disclosed herein. Various embodiments enable, for example, a user to enroll in a particular service by taking a photograph of a particular document (e.g., his driver license) with a mobile device. One or more algorithms can then extract relevant data from the captured image. The extracted data (e.g., the person's name, gender, date of birth, height, weight, etc.) can then be used to automatically populate various fields of an enrollment application, thereby reducing the amount of information that the user has to manually input into his mobile device in order to complete the enrollment process. In some embodiments, a set of internal and/or external checks can be run against the data to ensure that the data is valid, has been read correctly, and is consistent with other data.

Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for processing an image of a financial payment document captured using a mobile device and classifying the type of payment document in order to extract the content therein. These methods may be implemented on a mobile device or a central server, and can be used to identify content on the payment document and determine whether the payment document is ready to be processed by a business or financial institution. The system can identify the type of payment document by identifying features on the payment document and performing a series of steps to determine probabilities that the payment document belongs to a specific document type. The identification steps are arranged starting with the fastest step in order to attempt to quickly determine the payment document type without requiring lengthy, extensive analysis.

Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for assessing whether mobile deposit processing engines meet specified standards for mobile deposit of financial documents. A mobile deposit processing engine (MDE) is evaluated to determine if it can perform technical capabilities for improving the quality of and extracting content from an image of a financial document. A verification process then begins, where the MDE performs the image quality enhancements and text extraction steps on sets of images from a test deck. The results of the processing of the test deck are then evaluated by comparing confidence levels with thresholds to determine if each set of images should be accepted or rejected. Further analysis determines whether any of the sets of images were falsely accepted or rejected in error. An overall error rate is then compared with minimum accuracy criteria, and if the criteria are met, the MDE meets the standard for mobile deposit.

Abstract

Systems and methods for mobile enrollment in automated clearing house (ACH) transactions using mobile-captured images of financial documents are provided. Applications running on a mobile device provide for the capture and processing of images of documents needed for enrollment in an ACH transaction, such as a blank check, remittance statement and driver's license. Data from the mobile-captured images that is needed for enrolling in ACH transactions is extracted from the processed images, such as a user's name, address, bank account number and bank routing number. The user can edit the extracted data, select the type of document that is being captured, authorize the creation of an ACH transaction and select an originator of the ACH transaction. The extracted data and originator information is transmitted to a remote server along with the user's authorization so the ACH transaction can be setup between the originator's and receiver's bank accounts.

Abstract

Systems and methods for using a mobile device to submit an application for an insurance policy using images of documents captured by the mobile device are provided herein. The information is then used by an insurance company to generate a quote which is then displayed to the user on the mobile device. A user captures images of one or more documents containing information needed to complete an insurance application, after which the information on the documents is extracted and sent to the insurance company where a quote for the insurance policy can be developed. The quote can then be transmitted back to the user. Applications on the mobile device are configured to capture images of the documents needed for an insurance application, such as a driver's license, insurance information card or a vehicle identification number (VIN). The images are then processed to extract the information needed for the insurance application.

Abstract

Methods are provided for defining and determining a formal and verifiable mobile document image quality and usability (MDIQU) standard, or Standard for short. The Standard ensures that a mobile image can be used in an appropriate mobile document processing application, for example an application for mobile check deposit. In order to quantify the usability, the Standard establishes 5 quality and usability grades. A mobile image is first tested to determine if the quality is sufficient to obtain content from the image by performing multiple different image quality assessment tests. If the image quality is sufficient, one or more document usability computations are made to determine if the document or content in the image is usable by a particular application. A ranking is then assigned to the image based on the results of the tests which is indicative of the quality and usability of the image.

Abstract

Real-time evaluation of high quality preview images of a document prior to capturing a final image of the document on a mobile device is disclosed. In one aspect, an image capture device is activated on the mobile device. A plurality of preview images of the document is then captured, each of which has a lower image quality than a final image to be captured by the image capture device. Next, for each of the plurality of preview images, the system measures a parameter associated with the image capturing, and related to the ability to accurately extract text and other content from a captured preview image of the document. Next, the system selects a preview image among a subset of the captured preview images that passes the image quality measurement. When a predetermined condition is met, the system chooses the selected preview image as a final captured image of the document.

Abstract

Systems and methods for matching a received image with a template image are disclosed herein. Such systems and methods can advantageously enable an image captured by a mobile device (such as a smartphone or digital camera) to be correctly identified by the processing application. In some embodiments, the received image is first resized in one or both dimensions in order to match or approximately match the dimensions of a given template. The received image and template image can then be superimposed. Next, an optimal translative transformation value can be calculated in order to generate a confidence level for the current possible match. After confidence levels for each template are generated and recorded, the template with the highest confidence level can be selected as the best match for the received image.
