Abstract

The determination of the signal modulation format for a channel is an important aspect of the operation of a signal receiver. A method (700) is described including the steps of receiving (710) a signal, comparing (720) a sample of the received signal to a first threshold value and a second threshold value, creating (720) a signal profile based on the comparison, and selecting (750) a modulation format for the received signal based on the signal profile. An apparatus (500) is also described including a ring counter (510) that receives a sample of an input signal, compares the sample to a first threshold value and a second threshold value, and creates a signal profile for the input signal, a signal profiler (550) that compares the signal profile for the input signal to at least two reference profiles, and a detector (560) that determines a modulation format for the input signal based on the comparison in the signal profiler (550).

Abstract

The invention relates to a suspension arm actuator comprising a suspension arm which is designed as a two-arm lever and is mounted between the lever arms such that it can be pivoted about an axis extending perpendicularly thereto. At its end side, one of the lever arms supports a sensor, in particular a scanning device comprising an optical head having a focal lens, and comprises an elastically bendable region formed of at least one leaf spring and intended for a motion of the optical head in focusing direction and perpendicularly to the pivot plane of the suspension arm. In order to initiate said motion, a magnetic drive is allocated to said lever arm. The other one of the lever arms is provided with a component of a magnetic drive for a swivel motion about the axis. It solves the problem of designing such a suspension arm such that the free end of the lever arm supporting the optical head has a lower tendency towards mechanical resonances, associated with a reduced en- ergy consumption. To achieve this, the at least one leaf spring (4) which extends in longitudinal direction in relation to the suspension arm (1) and is arranged in parallel to the pivot plane thereof is embedded in the sections (I.1 and I.2) of the lever arm (I) supporting the optical head (3), said sections (I.1 and I.2) delimiting the bendable region (5), wherein said leaf spring (4) is enclosed by a damping means (DM) at least in one partial region arranged adjacent to each of said sections (I.1 or I.2).

Abstract

A mobile digital TV (DTV) comprises a DTV receiver, a processor, a personal video recorder (PVR), a memory for storing preprogramming data for the PVR and an alert element. The DTV receiver provides a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) to the processor. The latter compares the RSSI to an RSSI threshold value to determine if the mobile DTV is in an area of poor or no reception. If the mobile DTV is in an area of poor or no reception, the processor then checks the memory to determine if the PVR is preprogrammed to record a program within a set time interval, e.g., in the next thirty minutes. If so, the processor activates the alert element to provide an alert to the user.

Abstract

Movies are produced in 24Hz frame frequency and progressive scanning format (denoted 24p) for projection in film theatres, adhering to a worlwide standard for 35mm film. However, the major TV systems in the world use interlaced scanning and either 50Hz field frequency (denoted 50i ) or 60 Hzfield frequency (denoted60i ). Content providers would prefer providing single-picture-frequency single-audio-speed AV discs that can be replayed in most parts of the world. A 24p audio/video data stream is supplemented with additional 50i format data items thereby allowing 24p and 50i format replay of that data stream.

Abstract

A beam index cathode ray tube comprises a screen, an electron gun assembly, a yoke, and an image processor. The screen includes an alternating pattern of first, second, and third luminescent elements. The first second and third luminescent elements are arranged in triads. Each of the triads has one of each of the first, second, and third luminescent elements. The electron gun assembly directs first, second, and third electron beams toward the screen. The first, second, and third electron beams have an intensity controlled by an image processor. The yoke is arranged between the electron gun assembly and the screen. The yoke deflects the first, second, and third electron beams according to an algorithm generated by the image processor. Each of the first, second, and third electron beams is simultaneously deflected to the first luminescent element of either a single triad or multiple triads.

Abstract

In a method for applying a convergence drift coating (17) to a cathode ray tube (1), the convergence drift coating is applied to a neck (4). A first end (27) of the neck is sealed to a narrow end (30) of a funnel (50) after having applied the convergence drift coating to the neck. A conductive coating (15) is applied to an internal surface (32) of the funnel so that the conductive coating contacts the convergence drift coating. The wide end (29) of the funnel is sealed to a panel (3) having a luminescent screen (12) to form an envelope (2). An electron gun assembly (13) is sealed to the neck. The envelope is then exhausted and sealed to form the cathode ray tube.

Abstract

The invention relates to an attachment (1) for attaching a fan (7) to a device. Said attachment comprises two planar geometric shapes, rotated in the same plane in relation to each other, on which the fan (1) or the device are mounted. In a preferred embodiment, the planar geometric shapes are square and rotated in relation to each other by 45 degrees. Attachment points (2, 4) for the fan or the device are provided in the corners of the squares. The fan (7) or the device is attached by means of oscillation-damping attachment elements (8), thereby reducing or avoiding a transmission of vibrations of the fan onto the device. In an embodiment, the geometric shapes are linked at a distance to each other so that the attachment points (4) for the fan (7), in the assembled state, lie behind the attachment plane of the device, in which the device is linked with the attachment (1).

An infrared data association apparatus (200) for telephony use includes an interface circuit (205) for coupling to a telephone network (104), an infrared transceiver (203) for wireless exchange of data with a device (101) that has an infrared data association interface for data exchange, a signal multiplexer and modem (204) coupled to the interface circuit (205), and a central processor (201) for controlling the signal multiplexer and modem (204) to selectively pass audio and data and for controlling exchange of the data through the infrared transceiver (203).

Abstract

Method for automatically selecting a software application (J4) being a program for execution on a virtual machine, including the steps of receiving an exit status value (ES) from a terminating software application (J1); translating the exit status value (ES) to an identifier (App_ID) for the next software application (J4) to be executed, wherein a mapping table (MT) is used; executing on the virtual machine the next software application (J4) program that is represented by the identifier (App_ID).

Abstract

The invention relates to a method of transmitting digital data packets protected by error correction packets and more precisely the manner of inserting these correction packets into the data packet stream so as to increase the correction effectiveness of the error correction method while limiting the latency introduced into the transmission. The packets are set out in matrix form, error packets are computed on lines and columns and are inserted regularly into the stream at a sufficient distance from the data packets that they protect.
