Abstract

A simplified, compact, recliner mechanism is provided which can be adapted to many types of recliner design. A front linkage assembly and a rear linkage assembly provide the desired movement of the seat and back when moving from the TV position to the fully reclined position, obviating the need for a track and roller design. Moreover, a front pivot link and a rear pivot link are provided and oriented in a manner that allows the desired forward seat movement as the recliner moves from the closed position to the TV position. The geometries of the front linkage assembly, the rear linkage assembly, the front pivot link and the rear pivot link allow a slim profile design allowing great flexibility in the design of the recliner.

Abstract

A posturized comfort layer for a bedding or seating product has different sections of different firmness due to different mini coil springs within the sections. The springs may be individually pocketed between two sheets of non-woven polypropylene fabric joined with circular seams or rectangular seams. Each circular seam joins opposed pieces of fabric around one of the mini coil springs with curved segments. Alternatively, rectangular seams join opposed pieces of fabric around each of the mini coil springs with linear segments. Regardless of the shape of the seams, the different firmness of the different sections of the comfort layer may be due to the mini-coil springs contained in the pockets.

Abstract

A comfort layer for a bedding or seating product has slow-acting pockets characterized by the individual mini coil springs of the comfort layer being pocketed with either semi-impermeable or impermeable fabric. Each weld seam joining opposed plies of fabric around each of the coil springs of the comfort layer may be segmented, allowing air to flow between the segments, thereby increasing the luxury “feel” of the comfort layer. The method of making the comfort layer includes compressing the mini coil springs and creating pockets with a welding horn and an anvil.

Abstract

Aspects herein are directed to systems and methods for synchronization of actuators to reposition furniture units. Specifically, a master control box receives input to reposition a furniture unit from one position to another and communicates the input to a plurality of control boxes. Then, each of the plurality of control boxes assigns a virtual axis to each of a plurality of actuators attached to each associated control box. Furthermore, each of the plurality of control boxes assigns a transfer function to each of the plurality of actuators. The transfer function is used by the actuators to transform an output of the virtual axis to determine a target position. In this way, the plurality of actuators can reference the same virtual axis for synchronization purposes, but use different transfer functions to maintain complex relationships between the positions of each actuator. Based on the target position, the actuators reposition the furniture unit.

Abstract

An adjustable bed includes a stationary frame, a first head deck mattress support member supported by the frame, a second seat deck mattress support member supported by the frame and pivotally coupled to the head deck mattress support member, a sensor assembly adapted to detect a sound associated with human snoring, and a motorized drive assembly operatively coupled to the sensor assembly and to the first mattress support member. The adjustable bed may be such that detection of the snoring sound actuates the motorized drive assembly thereby causing relative movement of the first mattress support member with respect to the second mattress support member. The sensor assembly may further be adapted to recognize a sound associated with snoring of a particular person and actuation of the motorized drive assembly may move the first mattress support member between an inclined position and a horizontal flat position. The sensor assembly may further be adapted, after cessation of the snoring sound for a specific length of time, to return the first mattress support member to the horizontal flat position.

Abstract

A comfort layer for a bedding or seating product has slow-acting pockets characterized by the individual springs of the comfort layer being pocketed with either semi-impermeable or impermeable fabric. Each seam joining opposed plies of fabric around each of the coil springs of the comfort layer may be segmented, allowing air to flow between the segments, thereby increasing the luxury “feel” of the comfort layer. The method of making the comfort layer includes compressing the springs and creating pockets with a welding horn and an anvil.

Abstract

A motorized furniture assembly having seat and back support sections moves between sofa and bed positions relative to a stationary frame by activation of two motorized drive assemblies. The motorized drive assemblies move seat support brackets of a seat section forward and backward relative to the stationary frame. Movement of the seat section moves a back support section between horizontal and raised positions. Two linkage assemblies control movement of the motorized furniture assembly between the sofa and bed positions upon actuation of said at least one actuator for activating the motorized drive assemblies.

Abstract

A furniture cushion comprises a matrix of pocketed springs, each spring of which is contained within a pocket of fabric. Foam at least partially surrounds the matrix and is secured to a cushion frame. The foam is bowed upwardly over the matrix of pocketed springs to create a crown. A webbing sheet underneath an opening in the cushion frame creates a cavity inside which the matrix of pocketed springs resides. The flexibility of the webbing sheet and crown of the foam create an active suspension system which provides support and comfort.

Abstract

A high-load recline mechanism may include a first pair of linkage mechanisms positioned proximate a right side of a base and may also include a second pair of linkage mechanisms positioned proximate the left side of the base. The first pair of linkage mechanisms may be coupled together such that they both move between a closed position and a fully reclined position in unison. The second pair of linkage mechanisms may also be coupled together such that they both move between a closed position and a fully reclined position in unison. A motor drive tube may be coupled to the each of the inside linkage mechanisms of each pair of mechanisms in order to drive all of the linkage mechanisms between the closed position and the fully reclined position in unison. A linear actuator may be coupled between the motor drive tube and the base to actuate the recline mechanism.
