Abstract

The present invention provides a locking mechanism in a mobile terminal and a method of manufacturing the same. The locking mechanism comprises a slider, latch, button, and spring. The slider and latch include openings and may translate between a locked position and an unlocked position. The latch may include a protrusion that limits the translation of the slider and the latch when in the locked position. The button is located within the opening of the slider and the opening of the latch, and the spring member is fixed adjacent the latch. In an instance in which an external force is applied to the button, the external force deforms the spring member such that contact between a vertical edge of the protrusion and the spring is precluded allowing translation of the slider and the latch between the locked position and the unlocked position.

Abstract

A multi-functional optical illuminator comprises: a light pipe (302) with an open frame structure for visual aiming of the illuminator to facilitate an alignment of a barcode; and a circuit board (304), attached to a back opening of the light pipe (302), comprising six dark field LEDs (308) for generating six dark field illuminations and two bright field LEDs (306) for generating bright field illuminations;wherein, the two bright field LEDs (306) produce two alternating point sources for providing bright field illuminations in different directions to minimize a specular reflection hot spot without using any diffuser during the bright field illuminations;wherein, chamfered inner edges of the light pipe (302) emit the dark field illuminations in different orientations from the light pipe (302). The illuminator is designed to provide dual-field, multi-color, multi-directional illumination. The non-closed form option not only can further reduce the weight but also can allow arrange opening area clearance for: (1) visual aiming and alignment in application, especially for hand held application; (2) reducing illumination crosstalk to unwanted directions; and for (3) mechanical integration. The improvements allow the illuminator to read direct product marking (DPM) type of barcodes.

Abstract

A data collection system for, and methods of, providing reliable store-and-forward data handling by encoded information reading terminals can utilize ad-hoc peer-to-peer (i.e., terminal-to-terminal) connections in order to store data that is normally stored on a single terminal only, in a redundant manner on two or more terminals. Each portable encoded information reading terminal can be configured so that when it captures data, a software application causes the terminal to search out nearby peer terminals that can store and/or forward the data to other peer terminals or to a data collection server, resulting in the data having been stored by one or more peer terminals that are immediately or not immediately accessible by the data-originating terminal.

Abstract

Embodiments of a sterilization apparatus and methods of using a sterilization system are disclosed in the present application. The sterilization apparatus can take the form of a sterilization chamber comprising a top wall, a bottom wall, end walls and side walls which define the interior of the chamber. Throughout the interior of the chamber, multiple ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UVLEDs) irradiate energy at wavelengths for destroying pathogenic substances and achieving an efficient level of sterilization. A UV transparent plate located within the interior of the chamber can support one or more target devices, and can be proportionally sized to accommodate placement of a target device for the simultaneous and uniform distribution of UV sterilizing energy to the surfaces of a target. The sterilization chamber can provide the necessary decontamination and sterilization measures to effectively eliminate any residual biological contaminants on the exposed or hard-to-reach crevices or features of a medical device. Furthermore, one or more interior surfaces of the chamber may comprise a UV reflective material for distributing UV radiation upon substantially all surfaces of a target.

Abstract

The invention features an image reader and a corresponding method for capturing a sharp distortion free image of a target, such as a one or two-dimensional bar code. In one embodiment, the image reader comprises a two-dimensional CMOS based image sensor array, a timing module, an illumination module, and a control module. The time during which the target is illuminated is referred to as the illumination period. The capture of the image by the image sensor array is driven by the timing module that, in one embodiment, is able to simultaneously expose substantially all of the pixels in the array. The time during which the pixels are collectively activated to photo-convert incident light into charge defines the exposure period for the sensor array. In one embodiment, at least a portion of the exposure period occurs during the illumination period.

Abstract

The invention features a system and method for automatically discriminating between different types of data, such as a barcode and a signature, with an image reader. In brief overview of one embodiment, the automatic discrimination feature of the present image reader allows a human operator to aim a hand-held image reader at a target containing a dataform, a signature, or another data type and actuate the trigger on the image reader. An autodiscrimination module in the image reader in one embodiment analyzes image data representative of the target and determines whether the target contains a dataform, a signature, or another type of data. If the target contains a dataform, the image reader decodes the dataform and outputs decoded dataform data, such as the alphanumeric sequence encoded by a barcode. If the target contains a signature, the image reader captures or stores a representation of the signature.
