The present invention describes a Pd-catalyst, further consisting of La, Ti, Nb, K or Si, which have high ethylene selectivity even after a low temperature reduction in the se-lective hydrogenation of acetylene to ethylene and the production method of the same. A catalyst of the invention consists essentially of 0.05 to 2.0% by weight, based on the supported catalyst, of palladium and one or two metals chosen form the group consist-ing of lanthanum, niobium, titanium, potassium and silicon. The invention relates to a method for the continuous hydroformylation of polyalkenes having 30 to 700 carbon atoms and being unsaturated essentially once. The inventive method involves i) producing a cobalt carbonyl catalyst which is active for hydroformylation from a catalyst precursor which is dissolved in an aqueous phase, in the absence of the polyalkenes, ii) hydroformylating the polyalkenes with synthesis gas in the presence of the cobalt carbonyl catalyst in a reaction zone, and iii) separating the cobalt carbonyl catalyst from the discharge from the reaction zone while at least partially regenerating the catalyst precursor, and returning the catalyst precursor to step i).
