Abstract

A method of making polyurethane or polyurethane urea strands containing siloxane in the polyurethane or polyurethane urea backbone including the steps of: (a) reacting a macroglycol with a diisocyanate to form a prepolymer; (b) reacting the prepolymer with a diamine to form a spinning solution; (c) spinning the spinning solution to form polyurethane or polyurethane urea strands, wherein: i. a diol-polydimethylsiloxane is reacted with the macroglycol and the diisocyanate in step (a); ii. a diamine-polydimethylsiloxane is reacted with the prepolymer prior to the reaction of the prepolymer with the diamine in step (b); or iii. a diamine-polydimethylsiloxane is reacted at the same time as the prepolymer and diamine in step (b), and wherein the polyurethane or polyurethane urea strands comprise less than or equal to 6% of siloxane by weight based on the weight of the polyurethane or polyurethane urea strands and elastic fibers made thereby. An elastic fiber including two or more polyurethane or polyurethane urea strands including siloxane in the polyurethane or polyurethane urea backbone that are bundled together, wherein the siloxane is present in an amount of greater than or equal to 0.01% and less than or equal to 4.0% by weight based on the weight of the fiber. In some aspects, the siloxane is free of urethane radicals.

Abstract

A rolling guide for a fiber strand comprises a first support member extending from a base of the roller guide to a compound joint having first and second portions. The first portion of the compound joint is mounted on the first support member for rotation around a first axis. The second portion of the compound joint being rotatable relative to the first portion around a second axis at a compound angle to the first axis. A second support member is connected with the second portion of the compound joint at a proximal end of the second support member. A channeled roller is carried on the second support member distally from the proximal end, and mounted for rotation around a third axis. The channeled roller has an annular channel formed therein. A fastener is provided to selectively prevent the second portion of the compound joint from rotating around the second axis relative to the first portion of the compound joint. Also provided according to the present disclosure is a method of guiding one or more fiber strands from a fiber package on a creel device to a destination location for further processing.

[Problem] To provide a polyurethane elastic yarn which has the high strength and ductility sought in polyurethane elastic yarn, and also has excellent durability and heat resistance, as well as little fatigue at low temperature; and a production method thereof. [Means of Resolution] A polyurethane elastic yarn made from polyurethane which has polymer diol and diisocyanate as starting substances, wherein said polyurethane comprises a polyurethane A containing a polybutadiene structure in which the proportion of 1,2-bonded butadiene structure to 1,4-bonded butadiene structure in the molecule is in the range from 91:9 to 20:80.

Abstract

When elastomeric yarns are unwound and fed to the needles of a circular knitting apparatus, a yarn package relaxation profile is set, or determined, with corresponding adjustments made to the unwinding speed based on such package relaxation profile. Variably compensating for a varying package relaxation while knitting results in more uniform properties in a circular knit fabric and improved elastomeric yarn yield.

Circular knit, elastic fabrics of at least one of single jersey, French terry, and fleece are disclosed that include a bare elastomeric material plated with spun and/or continuous filament hard yarns. The circular knit, elastic fabrics of at least one of single jersey, French terry, and fleece are manufactured by a method that does not require a dry heat setting step. The method requires drafting the bare elastomeric material no more than about 2.5× its original length when knitting to form the circular knit, elastic fabrics of at least one of single jersey, French terry, and fleece.

Abstract

This invention relates to stretchable nonwoven sheets prepared by substantially uniformly impregnating a necked nonwoven substrate or an easily extensible as-made nonwoven substrate with an elastomeric polymer by treatment with an elastomeric polymer solution. The nonwoven sheet is useful in the manufacture of diapers and other hygiene articles.

Abstract

Warp stretch woven fabrics including plain, twill and satin constructions are disclosed. The fabrics include weft yarns and warp yarns. About 15 weight percent to about 55 weight percent of the warp yarns are polyester bicomponent continuous filaments comprising poly(ethylene terephthalate) and poly(trimethylene terephthalate) having an after-heat-set crimp contraction value from about 20% to about 80%.

Abstract

A castliner in the form of a three-dimensionally knitted sleeve comprises a microdenier yarn, and/or a spandex yarn, in particular, a spandex yarn having a flatter stress-strain curve than traditional spandex yarns. The use of the microdenier yarn contributes to the superior cushioning effect. The stretch and recovery properties of the particular spandex yarn contribute to superior fit and reduction of pressure points on the limb or body part to which the castliner is applied. Furthermore, the castliner is rendered water resistant and has significantly improved antimicrobial properties, both of which reduce incidents of skin irritation and unpleasant smell. As a result, the patient wearing the castliner of the invention is able to bathe and get wet without otherwise replacing the hard casting and castliner after such events.

Abstract

A process for making a synthetic melt spun polyamide filament in a solid phase polycondensation apparatus is disclosed. The flow rate of the purge (make-up) gas to the apparatus is increased, and the overall pressure in the apparatus is decreased, as compared to solid phase polycondensation apparatus of the prior art. As a result, the removal of the thermal degradation impurity from the polymer flake contributes to improving the yarn quality and at the same time, extends the spinneret wipe life.

Abstract

A multi-layer composite sheet comprising a shrinkable layer intermittently bonded a to a gatherable layer with the bonds separated by a specified distance and wherein the shrinkable layer can shrink and at the same time gather the gatherable layer between the bonds. A process for preparing multi-layer composite sheets by intermittently bonding a shrinkable layer to a gatherable layer with the bonds separated by a specified distance and causing the shrinkable layer to shrink while at the same time gathering the gatherable layer between the bonds. Preferably, the shrinkable layer comprises an array of fibers or nonwoven web comprising fibers having latent spiral crimp.
