At least one ejection assembly is provided that is configured to facilitate forward ejection of spent cartridges when a forward-ejection guide cover is in place on a receiver, and to allow for side ejection of spent cartridges when the forward-ejection guide cover is out of place on the receiver. Such a configuration may allow for reliable ejection and access to the action for clearance of jams or malfunctions while providing flexibility with forward or conventional side ejection.
