Abstract

A method for recovering concentrated nicotine from tobacco curing includes collecting a first aqueous solution including moisture released from tobacco during curing tobacco and including nicotine. The first aqueous solution is passed through a strong cation resin to sorb the nicotine. A second aqueous solution comprising ammonium hydroxide is passed through the resin to elute the nicotine and form a third aqueous solution comprising nicotine and ammonium hydroxide. The ammonium hydroxide is removed from the third aqueous solution to generate a fourth aqueous solution comprising nicotine. The fourth aqueous solution is incubated under conditions to cause the fourth aqueous solution to separate into a fifth aqueous solution comprising a first concentration of nicotine and a sixth aqueous solution comprising a second concentration of nicotine. The first concentration of nicotine is greater than the second concentration of nicotine.

Furthermore, the device comprises an inductive heating arrangement configured to generate an alternating magnetic field within the cavity for inductively heating the susceptor of the article when the article is received in the cavity. In addition, the device comprises a closure detector arranged and configured to detect at least one of: when a closure of the device is in an open position, in which the closure covers an insertion opening of the cavity, or when the closure moves from a closed position, in which the insertion opening is unobstructed by the closure, to the open position. The device further comprises a control circuitry operatively connected to the inductive heating arrangement and the closure detector and configured to energize the inductive heating arrangement in response to a signal from the closure detector indicating that the closure is in the open position or moves from the closed position to the open position, respectively; to determine - during energizing the inductive heating arrangement - at least one property or a change of at least one property of the inductive heating arrangement that depends on at least one of a type, a presence, an absence, a position or a movement of the susceptor in the cavity; and to detect at least one specific state related to the article based on the determined property or the determined change of the property of the inductive heating arrangement. The invention further relates to an aerosol-generating system comprising such a device and an aerosol-generating article.

Abstract

A method for controlling aerosol production in an aerosol-generating device comprising an inductive heating arrangement. The method comprises performing a calibration process for measuring one or more calibration values associated with a susceptor inductively coupled to the inductive heating arrangement; and controlling power provided to the inductive heating arrangement such that the temperature of the susceptor is adjusted based on the one or more calibration values. The method further comprises performing a pre-heating process, before the calibration process. The pre-heating process comprises: controlling the power provided to the inductive heating arrangement to cause an increase of the temperature of the susceptor; monitoring a power source parameter; and interrupting provision of power to the inductive heating arrangement at a first predetermined value of the monitored power source parameter.

Abstract

A method for controlling aerosol production in an aerosol-generating device including an inductive heating arrangement and a power source to provide power, including: performing, during a first heating phase, a calibration process for defining first and second calibration values associated with respective first and second calibration temperatures of a susceptor to heat an aerosol-forming substrate; and during a second heating phase, controlling power to maintain a target operating value within the values, controlling the power to cause an increase of susceptor temperature, monitoring a value associated with current, interrupting power when the value reaches a first extremum corresponding to the second calibration value, monitoring the value until it reaches a second extremum corresponding to the first calibration value, and in response to determining that the value reached a minimum, repeating the steps, the calibration values corresponding to values associated with current measured during a first repetition of the steps.

Abstract

There is provided a susceptor assembly (12) for an aerosol-generating system (100). The susceptor assembly comprises a wicking element (18) having first and second planar surfaces. The first and second surfaces define opposite, outward-facing surfaces of the wicking element. The susceptor assembly further comprises a susceptor element (16) comprising an arrangement of one or more strips of susceptor material. The arrangement of one or more strips is wrapped around a central region of the wicking element to overlie the first and second outward-facing surfaces of the wicking element and enclose the central region of the wicking element.

Abstract

The present invention relates to an induction heating arrangement for use in an inductively heating aerosol-generating device, wherein the heating arrangement comprises a cylindrical-helical induction coil for generating an alternating magnetic field allowing to inductively heat a susceptor within an interior space of the induction coil in order to heat an aerosol-forming substrate in thermal contact or thermal proximity with the susceptor. The heating arrangement comprises a flux concentrator arranged around the induction coil and configured to distort the alternating magnetic field of the induction heating arrangement towards the interior space of the induction coil during use. The flux concentrator comprises a sleeve portion circumferentially surrounding the induction coil and an annular protrusion portion at each axial end of the sleeve portion protruding radially inward beyond the sleeve portion, wherein the induction coil is axially arranged between the annular protrusion portions. The invention further relates to an induction heating module, and aerosol-generating device and an aerosol-generating system comprising such a heating arrangement.

Abstract

An induction heating module (30) for use in an inductively heating aerosol-generating device comprises a cylindrical-helical induction coil (13) for generating an alternating magnetic field allowing to inductively heat a susceptor (22) within an interior space of the induction coil in order to heat a liquid aerosol-forming substrate in thermal contact or thermal proximity with the susceptor. The induction heating module further comprises a coil support (17) for supporting the induction coil. The outer circumference of the support tube (32) is obround, having a non-circular flattened transverse cross-sectional shape consisting of two opposing flat sections connected by two opposing at least partially curved sections. The induction coil is wound around the outer circumference of the support tube such that a transverse cross- sectional shape of the induction coil follows the non-circular flattened transverse cross-sectional shape of the outer circumference of the support tube.
