Abstract

Estimation of network latency based on aggregated performance data is disclosed. End-to-end latency between endpoints can comprise protocol-induced latency, access network-induced, core-network latency, and network-distance-based latency. Network latency, e.g., network-distance-based latency, also referred to as topological latency, can correspond to communication path length between endpoints. Crowdsourcing of communication path performance information can enable estimation of topological latency, and derivatives thereof, such as topological distance. Crowdsourcing can be the practice of obtaining information or input into a task or project by enlisting the services of a large number of people, either paid or unpaid, e.g., collection of performance information. The disclosure illustrates estimation of protocol-induced latency, access network-induced, and core-network latency, such that they can be compensated for in end-to-end latency information, thereby enabling estimation of topological latency that can be employed in determining, initiating, etc., a network response operation that can affect change in a network.

Abstract

Server selection for improving latency with an instance of a service is disclosed. Generally, lower core latency is preferrable. Core latencies can be related to a physical distance between endpoints connected via a communication pathway, such as a first server and second server connected via network equipment. A geographic distance between endpoints can be different from a topological distance of a communication pathway between endpoints. Endpoints, e.g., servers, can be ranked based on topological distance. The ranking can be communicated to service provider equipment to enable selection of a server based on a corresponding ranking of the server. Selection of an endpoint based on topological distance can enable improved latency in comparison to selecting an endpoint based on geographical distance. Improved latency can result in an improved quality of experience for a user of a service supported by an endpoint selected based on topological distance.

Abstract

The disclosed technology is directed towards facilitating communication with an unknown person via a device of the person having an unknown communications address. The presence of a visible person at a location can be determined, and a communications device at or near that location can be detected as a candidate device associated with that person. The device's current location, which can be regularly registered along with its communication address, is matched to the person's visible location. Communication via the device, such as by a responder, whether with the person and/or to obtain information from the device, is based on the registered communication address. The person's identity and other data may be obtainable. For a non-visible person, e.g., underneath an obstruction, the location of a detected device predicts the likely presence of a person near that location. A map may be generated showing locations of multiple detected devices.

Abstract

The disclosed technology is directed towards enabling a property, such as via a device associated with a residential or commercial property, to identify an issue and arrange for mediation of the issue. For example, a service provider can be automatically scheduled to resolve a maintenance issue at a scheduled time, with controlled (e.g., key code-based) property access granted to the service provider in the corresponding timeframe. Sensor data obtained from a sensor associated with the property can be analyzed to determine when an incident related to the property has occurred that needs mediation. An action to remediate the incident is determined and taken, such as to schedule a repair. An automated action can also be taken, e.g., to temporarily halt damage resulting from the issue until the repair can take place. If needed, communication between the party responsible for the property and the service provider is facilitated.

Abstract

The disclosed technology is directed towards providing guidance, e.g., point-to-point audio guidance, along an evacuation route. The presence of occupant(s) within a structure/area is monitored. If an evacuation event occurs, an evacuation route is determined for each occupant based on their current monitored starting location. Guidance is output, e.g., by various output devices along the evacuation route, which can be the safety monitors that monitor occupant presence, to guide each occupant from point-to-point along the evacuation route. For example, one monitor can be configured to hand off guidance responsibility to a next monitor along the evacuation route. The guidance can be customized for each known occupant based on their recognized features, or can be directed generally to an unknown occupant. Status information of the occupants can be provided to other occupants and to a responding entity. A responding entity can also be given directional guidance.

Abstract

The disclosed technology is directed towards efficiently identifying a first entity (e.g., a user or sensor) as a potential witness to an event. A first dataset describing event time data and event location data of an event are obtained from a first device. A second dataset describing device time data and device location data are obtained via a device associated with a second entity, e.g., a user. By analyzing the first and second datasets, e.g., for time and location intersection, the second entity can be identified as a potential witness to the event, and notified of such. Factors such as line of sight, speed and direction, audio sensing range versus event volume, and the like of the second entity can be used in determining whether the second entity is a likely witness. A witness to a live event can be identified and asked to send in live (e.g., video) evidence.

Abstract

Adaptable resiliency for a virtualized radio access network (vRAN) framework is disclosed. A resiliency management component can determine vRAN topological adaptations that can reflect resiliency requirements of service instance(s). Accordingly, sufficient redundant vRAN components to satisfy the resiliency requirements can be deployed. However, unlike conventional redundancy techniques that can determine a highest level of redundancy and then apply that relative to all supported services, the disclosed subject matter can avoid over-deploying redundant vRAN components, e.g., redundant components exceeding the resiliency requirement of a service instance, resulting in lowered monetary and non-monetary costs to maintain a vRAN. Moreover, as the services change, the topology of the vRAN can be automatically adapted to purge excessive redundancies, add newly required redundancies, etc., which can facilitate propagating an adequate but lean vRAN topology that is sufficiently resilient.

Abstract

The disclosed technology relates to detection of attention exhibited by a second user to a first user's avatar in a virtual reality environment. A first user's avatar activity and the second user's activity are evaluated to determine the second user's (e.g., via another avatar) attention level directed towards first user's avatar. Information can be sent to notify the first user that the second user's attention level has satisfied attention-level criterion data. For example, if the second user is viewing and/or is within audio range of the first user for too long of a time or too frequently, then the first user can be notified and/or other action taken. Remedial action is available for negative attention, such blocking the second user from experiencing the first user in the environment. Detection of attention for positive purposes is available, such as to reward an influencer whose avatar is receiving significant attention from followers.

Abstract

The disclosed technology is directed towards virtual reality collaboration spaces with associated context data. Once created, a virtual reality collaboration space can be pervasively existent, such that the space can be joined or returned to as needed by any admitted participants. The existence of a created collaboration space in association with its collaboration context data can be advertised to specific invitees or general invitees, and can be searchable. In general, upon receiving a reservation request for reservation of a virtual reality collaboration space, a virtual location for the collaboration space is reserved. Access is granted to requesting entities authorized to access the space. Permissions can differ for different invitees, e.g., such that only permitted users can access proprietary information presented as a virtual reality element within the collaboration space. The collaboration space can also be used to drop off virtual reality elements, e.g., from one user to another user.

Abstract

Described is allocating and deallocating server instances (e.g., comprising baseband unit resources) of a distributed unit based on need for user equipment session handling. For example, when user equipment sessions load a server instance to a threshold capacity, an additional server instance can be allocated to handle new user equipment sessions. Any selected carrier subgroup, which can correspond to a cell's carriers, can be selected for assigning any newly incoming, unassigned user equipment sessions associated with the selected carrier subgroup to the newly allocated, additional server instance. As prior sessions end, the load decreases on the server that had reached the threshold capacity. When the total hub load decreases, deallocation of a no-longer used server instance can be performed. Deallocation can include transferring any remaining session, e.g., long-lasting sessions, to a different server instance. Load balancing and/or resource consolidation, without service interruption, is thus achievable within a hub.

Abstract

The disclosed technology is directed towards virtual reality bookmarks that maintain state data for a user in a virtual reality environment, such that the user can to return to that virtual reality environment at a later time. While presenting virtual reality session content to a user, a system or the like can receive a request to pause the virtual reality session from a user. Session state data, e.g., in the form of a virtual reality bookmark, is saved based on the pause request. A later request to resume presentation of the virtual reality content results in the system accessing the virtual reality session data, which is used to present resumed virtual reality session content to the user based on the session state data. A pause request may be for an individual user or for each user participating in a session. Virtual reality bookmarks may be shared with other users.
