Abstract

The invention relates to process of preparing a modified layered silicate comprising i) Providing a natural layered silicate comprising calcium interlayer cations, ii) Providing a compound having lithium cations and providing a compound having sodium cations, wherein the compounds having lithium cations and the compound having sodium cations are both provided in the form of inorganic salts, and wherein the compound having lithium cations is employed in an amount of 0.3 % to 8.0 % by weight, calculated on the weight of the natural layered silicate having calcium interlayer cations, iii) Mixing the layered silicate provided in step i) and the compounds provided in step ii) in the presence of water, wherein the water content in the mixture is at least 20 % by weight, for a period of at least 5 minutes, iv) Drying the mixture prepared in step iii) to a water content of 15% by weight or less to obtain a modified layered silicate.

The present invention relates to a diamide-polyolefin wax mixture which comprises one or more diamides (A) and one or more polyolefin waxes (B), the one or more diamides (A) having a structure of formula X1-CO-NH-Y-NH-CO-X2, wherein X1 and X2 are the same or different and are linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated, optionally substituted hydrocarbon groups with 3 to 29 carbon atoms, and Y is a divalent organic group, selected from the group consisting of aliphatic groups with 2 to 26 carbon atoms, aromatic groups with 6 to 24 carbon atoms or araliphatic groups with 7 to 24 carbon atoms, and Y optionally contains secondary or tertiary amine groups, and the one or more polyolefin waxes (B) carry one or more carboxyl groups and have an acid number of 3 to 50, and are homopolymers or copolymers of at least one ethylenically-unsaturated olefin monomer. The mixture contains the one or more diamides (A) in an amount of 20% by weight to less than 40% by weight relative to the total weight of the diamide-polyolefin wax mixture, the one or more polyolefin waxes (B) in an mount of more than 60% by weight up to 80% by weight relative to the total weight of the diamide-polyolefin wax mixture, and is characterized in that the diamide-polyolefin wax mixture is present as a particulate solid having a defined particle size distribution at 25°C and the particles contain both the diamide (A) and the polyolefin wax (B). The invention further relates to the production of the above-mentioned diamide-polyolefin wax mixture, to the use thereof in liquid compositions, especially as a rheology control agent, to corresponding compositions containing said additives and to rheology control agents which contain the diamide-polyolefin wax mixtures.

The invention relates to a urea preparation containing (A) 5 to 75 wt.% of one or more urea components which have a molecular weight of at least 350 g/mol and contain at least one urea group; (B) 15 to 95 wt.%, preferably 30 to 80 wt.%, of one or more organic solvents from the group of N alkyl amides that have a molecular weight of 155 to 700 g/mol, are free of urea groups, and have the following formula (I), in which (a) R1 is an x-containing hydrocarbon group, where x = 1 to 24 carbon atoms, R2 is a y-containing organic group, where y = 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and R3 is a z-containing organic group, where z = 1 to 12 carbon atoms, or (b) R1, R2, and R3 are defined as in (a) but R1 and R2 are connected to each other by a chemical bond and together form a ring with 4 to 10 ring atoms while incorporating the group C(=O)N, and in the case of a ring with 4 or 5 ring atoms, R3 contains at least 6 carbon atoms and maximally 11 carbon atoms, or (c) R1, R2, and R3 are defined as in (a) but R2 and R3 are connected to each other by a chemical bond and together form a ring with 4 to 10 ring atoms while incorporating the nitrogen atom of the general formula (I) with the proviso that for each of (a), (b), and (c), x+y+z ≥8; (C) 0 to 35 wt.% of one or more organic solvents which differ from (B) and do not contain urea groups or ionic groups and which have maximally two heteroatoms selected from the group consisting of nitrogen and oxygen; and (D) 0 to 50 wt.% of a salt which differs from the urea component(s) (A), the solvent(s) (B), and the solvent(s) (C), wherein the sum of all of the stated weight percentages equals the total weight of the urea preparation.
