Abstract

One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for providing for improved color prediction from a known coating formulation by using Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning models. A machine learning models can be used to improve color match accuracy between a given formula and the resulting application of the colored coating. Using this approach, a single-color prediction model can be used for a set of multiple binders and a set of colorants to predict a more accurate color prediction, instead of separately training separate models for each different color coating. As an example, a single model can be trained with all the sets of target binders and all the sets of target colorants; and this model can be used to accurately predict the resulting color for a proposed formulation of a coating input to the single trained model.

Abstract

One or more systems, products, and methods are disclosed to provide for a concentrated surface treatment product, and the preparation, packaging, and application of the concentrated surface treatment product. The product can be easily stored, transported, and packaged in a variety of means while mitigating separation of the components of the surface treatment. The concentrated surface treatment product may be diluted using a solvent such as water by the end-user, allowing a user to mix only what is needed for the project and store the rest with less risk of separation than conventional surface treatments. The concentrated surface treatment may be packaged in a polymer pouch, a dissolvable solid, or in a spray nozzle, and when exposed to water, the concentrated surface treatment mixes and may be applied to a target surface.

Abstract

One or more technique and/or systems for a coating roller assembly, including a coating applicator cage frame (122) and a frame wire (102, 302). The roller assembly can comprise a handle (150) coupled with the frame wire (102, 302) configured to operably hold the coating applicator cage frame (122). Bearings (120, 126, 320, 326) can be fixed to the coating applicator cage frame (122) at its both ends. Instead of using typical pinning or swedging techniques for holding the bearing (120, 302), a sleeve can be crimped into place over a treated surface of the frame wire (102, 302) between the second end (106) and third bend (112). In this way, for example, the structural integrity of the frame wire (102, 302) can be substantially maintained, providing for improved durability and a longer life for the roller assembly.

Abstract

A low volatile organic compound (VOC) coating composition with a low viscosity is described. The coating composition includes a hydrocarbon solvent; a reactive or non-reactive diluent; a drier composition; and a hyper-branched alkylated polymer. A colorant can be added so that the coating composition can be used as a stain, such as a wood stain. The hyper-branched alkylated polymer functions as the main binder to provide an effective coating composition having a relatively low VOC level.

Abstract

The present application relates to a resin or polymer system suitable for two-component compositions, and a resin or polymer system configured for durable coatings with only thin coating weights. The resins and polymer systems of this invention provide high performance extremely thin, low gloss coatings with excellent adhesion, abrasion, scratch and chemical resistance The resins include a polyester component with one or more polyester polyols having a hydroxyl value of about 50 to about 300 and a polyurea component with one or more polyester polyol grafted polyurea polymers having a hydroxyl value of about 20 to about 100. These resin or polymer systems and two-component solvent borne coating compositions including such resin or polymer systems are surprisingly capable of achieving strong adhesion, excellent linear abrasion, and high chemical resistance all at the same time in a dry film thickness of about 2 mil or less, in some instances, about 1.2 mils or less, and in other instances, even about 1 mil or less.

Abstract

The present technology provides a coating composition suitable for maintaining a cooler surface temperature in the presence of a UV source, e.g., the sun, as compared with a conventional coating composition. The present coating composition can reflect the sun's rays to provide a cooler surface when compared to other compositions of similar colors. The coating can be used to coat a variety of substrates and can be used, for example, as a coating for walking surfaces. When applied to a walking surface, the coating composition may provide a cooler surface that is barefoot-friendly, even in the presence of the sun or other strong UV source.

Abstract

A latex emulsion may include an aqueous carrier liquid and a latex copolymer formed from reactants comprising butyl methacrylate, wherein the reactants include at least 20 wt. % butyl methacrylate, based on the total weight of ethylenically unsaturated monomers used to make the latex copolymer. A coating formed from the latex emulsion exhibits a wet adhesion to a thermoplastic polyolefin roofing membrane of greater than about 1 pound per linear inch when tested using fabric embedded peel adhesion testing per ASTM C794. The latex emulsion may be used as part of an aqueous coating composition or a roofing system including a polymeric roofing membrane.

Abstract

A latex emulsion that includes an aqueous carrier liquid and a latex copolymer formed from reactants comprising butyl methacrylate, wherein the reactants comprise at least 20 wt. % a vinyl monomer, based on the total weight of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the latex copolymer. A homopolymer formed from the vinyl monomer preferably exhibits a glass transition temperature of between about -10 C and about 30 C. A coating formed from the latex emulsion preferably exhibits a dry adhesion of greater than about 4 pounds per linear inch when applied between a thermoplastic polyolefin roofing membrane and a plywood roofing substrate at an average coat weight of about 6 lbs/100 ft2 and subjected to 180 peel testing according to ASTM D903 with a 2-inch per minute pull rate. The latex emulsion may include a second latex copolymer or stage, and may be used as part of an aqueous adhesive composition.

Abstract

A paint container for use with a reusable dispensing apparatus (50, 40, 100A, 100B, 300), and the reusable dispensing apparatus (50, 40, 100A, 100B, 300) are provided to dispense paint under pressure. The paint container includes a housing (10) defining an interior space that is devoid of an internal valve, and a combination comprising a propellant combined with paint within the interior space. A container cap (11) is installed on the housing (10) to enclose the propellant combined with the paint within the interior space at an elevated pressure, and defines a channel that cooperates with a portion of the housing. A compressible gasket (81) is disposed within the channel and compressed between the container cap (11) and the portion of the housing to form a seal that interferes with an escape of the propellant combined with the paint between the container cap (11) and the housing (10). A releasable fastener (19) engages releasably couples the reusable dispensing apparatus to the container cap (11).

Abstract

This invention relates to urethane acrylic hybrid polymer dispersion with robust dry/wet adhesion and the basecoats prepared therefrom for automotive applications. In this system, the polyurethane dispersion (PUD) prepolymer is based on a combination of polyols and aliphatic diisocyanates. The acrylic portion is based on (meth)acrylated monomers. A combination of this hybrid polymer dispersion and other resins having defined glass transition temperature (T6) values, organic and/or inorganic rheology modifiers, and different additives including pigment, dispersant, and defoamer are used to prepare waterborne basecoats having modified appearance and performance. The final coatings show excellent dry/wet adhesion to the primer for automotive applications.

Abstract

A container assembly including a storage container (10) and a catalyst container (40). The catalyst container (40) includes a reservoir (42) for holding a second material (16), such as a reactive hardener or activator as used in 2K coating systems, or a catalyst (46), the reservoir (42) having a spacer (52) extending therefrom, and a top member (48) removably secured to the reservoir (42). The top member (48) is secured to a spout (28) of the storage container (10) and is movable with the spout (28). The spout (28) of the storage container (10) is movable from a closed position to an open position thereby moving the top member (48) away from the reservoir (42) and separating the reservoir (42) from the top member (48), which causes the reservoir (42) to drop into the storage container (10) to mix the catalyst (46) with a material (16) in the storage container (10).
