Abstract

Solvent-free, hydrophobically modified urethane (HEURs) compositions produced by reactive extrusion, methods of producing the same, and coating compositions containing the same are described. Such HEURs can be used as solvent-free or low-solvent rheology modifiers in coatings formulations. The HEURs compositions herein are formed by reactive extrusion of a polyether polyol and an isocyanate functional material in the presence of a metal catalyst, and an hydrophobic, end-capping modifier without the need for organic solvents, co-solvents, and/or surfactants. In certain aspects, compositions and methods herein do not require the costly stripping of organic solvent to provide useable product, allow for a 100% active solids HEUR that can be added directly to the grind stage of making a paint composition, and are free of VOC-contributing solvents or co-solvent.

Abstract

Water-dispersible or water-dispersed polymers are made by reacting (i) an unsaturated monomer containing one or more cyclic carbonate groups, or (ii) an unsaturated or saturated oligomer or polymer containing a plurality of cyclic carbonate groups, with a tertiary amine in the presence of an acid, or with an acid in the presence of a tertiary amine, or in the presence of an acid and a tertiary amine, to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed monomer, oligomer or polymer. When step a) provides a monomer or oligomer, the monomer or oligomer is reacted with one or more monomers in the presence of an initiator to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed polymer. When step a) provides a polymer, the polymer is optionally used to support emulsion polymerization of one or more unsaturated monomers in the presence of an initiator to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed further polymer.

Abstract

Package transfer systems and methods for moving packages in a conveyor system are described herein. The package transfer systems and methods include package stops that move between their open and closed configurations. Abstract

A paint container for use with a reusable dispensing apparatus, and the reusable dispensing apparatus are provided to dispense paint under pressure. The paint container includes a housing defining an interior space that is devoid of an internal valve, and a combination comprising a propellant combined with paint within the interior space. A container cap is installed on the housing to enclose the propellant combined with the paint within the interior space at an elevated pressure, and defines a channel that cooperates with a portion of the housing. A compressible gasket is disposed within the channel and compressed between the container cap and the portion of the housing to form a seal that interferes with an escape of the propellant combined with the paint between the container cap and the housing. A releasable fastener engages releasably couples the reusable dispensing apparatus to the container cap.

Preferably, the coating composition is substantially free of each of BPA, PVC, other halogenated monomers, and optionally styrene. The method may also include curing the sprayed coating composition, thereby providing the coating on the interior surface of the food or beverage container.

Abstract

A fluid storage system includes a container defining an interior space that lacks an internal valve. A product and a propellant are stored under pressure within the interior space. A container cap includes a membrane that encloses a space defined by a coupling element, which includes a releasable fastener that releasably couples a fluid dispensing apparatus to the container. The container cap also includes a dip tube comprising a proximate end that extends at least partially into the space defined by the coupling element, and a distal end that protrudes from the space in a direction generally away from the container cap, into the interior space defined by the container. The dip tube defines an interior passage extending between the proximate end and the distal end through which the product is to be expelled from the container by the propellant.

Abstract

One or more systems, products, and methods are disclosed to provide for a concentrated surface treatment product, and the preparation, packaging, and application of the concentrated surface treatment product. The product can be easily stored, transported, and packaged in a variety of means while mitigating separation of the components of the surface treatment. The concentrated surface treatment product may be diluted using a solvent such as water by the end-user, allowing a user to mix only what is needed for the project and store the rest with less risk of separation than conventional surface treatments. The concentrated surface treatment may be packaged in a polymer pouch, a dissolvable solid, or in a spray nozzle, and when exposed to water, the concentrated surface treatment mixes and may be applied to a target surface.

Abstract

One or more technique and/or systems for a coating roller assembly, including a coating applicator cage frame (122) and a frame wire (102, 302). The roller assembly can comprise a handle (150) coupled with the frame wire (102, 302) configured to operably hold the coating applicator cage frame (122). Bearings (120, 126, 320, 326) can be fixed to the coating applicator cage frame (122) at its both ends. Instead of using typical pinning or swedging techniques for holding the bearing (120, 302), a sleeve can be crimped into place over a treated surface of the frame wire (102, 302) between the second end (106) and third bend (112). In this way, for example, the structural integrity of the frame wire (102, 302) can be substantially maintained, providing for improved durability and a longer life for the roller assembly.

A low volatile organic compound (VOC) coating composition with a low viscosity is described. The coating composition includes a hydrocarbon solvent; a reactive or non-reactive diluent; a drier composition; and a hyper-branched alkylated polymer. A colorant can be added so that the coating composition can be used as a stain, such as a wood stain. Abstract

This invention relates to urethane acrylic hybrid polymer dispersion with robust dry/wet adhesion and the basecoats prepared therefrom for automotive applications. In this system, the polyurethane dispersion (PUD) prepolymer is based on a combination of polyols and aliphatic diisocyanates. The acrylic portion is based on (meth)acrylated monomers. A combination of this hybrid polymer dispersion and other resins having defined glass transition temperature (Tg) values, organic and/or inorganic rheology modifiers, and different additives including pigment, dispersant, and defoamer are used to prepare waterborne basecoats having modified appearance and performance. The final coatings show excellent dry/wet adhesion to the primer for automotive applications.

Abstract

The present application relates to a resin or polymer system suitable for two-component compositions, and a resin or polymer system configured for durable coatings with only thin coating weights. The resins and polymer systems of this invention provide high performance extremely thin, low gloss coatings with excellent adhesion, abrasion, scratch and chemical resistance The resins include a polyester component with one or more polyester polyols having a hydroxyl value of about 50 to about 300 and a polyurea component with one or more polyester polyol grafted polyurea polymers having a hydroxyl value of about 20 to about 100. These resin or polymer systems and two-component solvent borne coating compositions including such resin or polymer systems are surprisingly capable of achieving strong adhesion, excellent linear abrasion, and high chemical resistance all at the same time in a dry film thickness of about 2 mil or less, in some instances, about 1.2 mils or less, and in other instances, even about 1 mil or less.

Abstract

A pad painter system includes a pad painter having a base portion and a handle portion extending from the base portion, an applicator pad detachably secured to the base portion, and a lock mechanism having a lock tab of the base portion and an tab opening of the applicator pad. The lock tab extends into the tab opening to retain the applicator pad to the pad painter. The lock tab is formed at an edge of a wall and an opening is formed in the wall adjacent to the lock tab so that the lock tab can be resiliently deflected out of the tab opening to release the applicator pad. The base portion can include a tab flange extending out from the wall that extends inwardly from the edge at opposed sides of the lock tab and around the lock tab to stiffen the wall area by the lock tab.

Abstract

A spray gun alignment system precisely aligns a spray gun of a container spray machine for precision application of container coatings. The spray gun alignment system generates a spray gun alignment jig including a container holder adapter and a spray gun adapter. The container holder adapter is inserted into a container holder of the spray machine, and the spray gun adapter is fastened to the spray gun. The spray gun alignment jig is configured to position the spray gun in proper alignment with respect to the container holder.
