Abstract

An electrical connector assembly includes a first electrical contact device and a second electrical contact device. The first electrical contact device includes at least one first electrical contact and an actuator movable between a first position and a second position. The second electrical contact device includes at least one second electrical contact device and an interlock feature to engage the actuator when the actuator is in the first position. The actuator is in the first position when the first electrical contact is in electrical communication with a power source, and the actuator is in the second position when the electrical communication between the first electrical contact and the power source is disconnected. When the actuator is in the first position and the second electrical contact engage the first electrical contact, the interlock feature engages the actuator, thereby securing the first electrical contact device and the second electrical contact device against disconnection.

Abstract

A circuit interrupting device including a line terminal, a wideband current sensor configured to measure a current flowing through the line terminal, a zero cross detection circuit configured to measure a voltage and frequency of the line terminal, and a microcontroller including an electronic processor. The microcontroller is configured to apply a digital filter to a line current measurement signal received from the wideband current sensor and estimate spectral density of the filtered line current measurement signal. The microcontroller is further configured to calculate an arcing characteristic based on the spectral density, determine whether an arc fault is present within the circuit interrupting device based on a comparison of the arcing characteristic to one or more thresholds, and activate an interrupting device when an arc fault is present.

Abstract

An insertion and extraction tool for a fiber optic connector is provided. The tool includes a first frame member, second frame member, and a pivot connection. The pivot connection secures the first and second frame members to one another for movement between an open position and a closed position. The frame members define tips at one side of the pivot connection and handles at an opposite side of the pivot connection. The frame members, at least at the tips, have a cross sectional width equal to or smaller than the fiber optic connector. The frame members are configured so that the tips define a plurality of discrete gripping regions.

Abstract

A compression die configured to crimp a composite core is disclosed. The compression die includes an outer body having a tool engaging surface, and an inner body coupled to the outer body. The inner body has a crimping area, wherein the crimping area of the inner body includes ten planar surfaces. The ten planar surfaces are positioned at an angle with respect to an adjacent planar surface such that the combination of the ten planar surfaces form a decagon shaped channel. Crimping is performed by the compression die by inserting the composite core into an encasing connector, which is then inserted into the decagon shaped channel of the compression die. A radial force towards the center of the decagon shaped channel is applied until an outer circumference of the encasing connector containing the composite core fully engages a surface area of each of the ten planar surfaces.

Abstract

A tool for removing insulation from a cable is provided. The tool includes a housing, a blade, a ramp assembly, and a clearance window. The housing has a central opening. The blade has a cutting edge and is secured to the housing so that the cutting edge protrudes into the central opening. The ramp assembly has a cable support portion, a ramp base, and a biasing member. The cable support portion is pivotally connected to the ramp base, which is secured to the housing so that the ramp base protrudes into the central opening opposite the cutting edge. The clearance window is positioned with respect to the blade so that an insulation chip produced during removal of the insulation from the cable, during rotation of the housing and cable with respect to one another, travels through the clearance window. The biasing member biases the cable support portion away from the ramp base towards the central opening and the cutting edge.

Abstract

A tool for removing insulation from a cable that includes a housing, a blade, a ramp assembly, and a clearance window. The biasing member biases the cable support portion away from the ramp base.

Abstract

Portable, hand-held, battery operated, hydraulic tools are provided with a tool frame, a force sensor, and a location detector. A piston actuated by a hydraulic system within the tool frame applies force to the working head to perform a task, such as to apply a crimp to an electrical connector. The tool determines the maximum force applied to the crimp and records that maximum force along with the geographic location of the tool when the crimp was formed. The maximum force provides an indication of the quality of the crimp and the recorded location allows a potentially defective crimp to be located.

Abstract

A temporary power delivery system includes a power source, a booth stringer, and a portable GFCI device. The GFCI device is receives current from the power source by a first terminal and delivers current to the booth stringer by a second terminal. An electronic processor of the GFCI device compares a combined magnitude of current flowing through first and second phase conductors of the GFCI device to a magnitude of current flowing through a neutral conductor of the GFCI. The electronic processor also compares a first voltage between the first phase conductor and neutral conductor to a second voltage between the second phase conductor and neutral conductor. A circuit breaker of the GFCI device is opened if a difference between the combined magnitude of phase conductor current and neutral conductor current exceeds a first threshold or a difference between the first voltage and second voltage exceeds a second threshold.
