Abstract

This invention discloses an ink dispensing system (3) for a rotary printing unit of a printing machine using the nip area (8) between the inking cylinder (7) and the gravure/anilox cylinder (6) as the sole source of inking. Our solution solves the problem of reducing the amount of ink present in the nip area (8), which serves as an inking buffer, of such printing machines, thereby accelerating the reaction time of an ink replacement and reducing the amount of waste and the cleaning time. The idea behind the invention is to provide ink to the nip area (8) at selected locations when needed by using a ink dispensing system (3) that moves along the nip area (8).

Abstract

This document discloses an ink dispensing system (1) for dispensing a precise and continuous amount of ink (5) to a printing press. The ink dispensing system (1) can be combined into a more elaborate ink dispensing system (1) that uses two chambers (2, 22) with ink (5, 25) having a different density for dispensing ink (5, 25) with a precise, adjustable and stable ink density. The ink dispensing system (1) can be used to compensate the drifts in quality observed in presses when the speed, or any environmental parameter varies.

Abstract

The present invention concerns an inking system for a flexographic or a rotogravure press. The inking system uses a very small amount of ink (10) coupled with an ink source (6) made of two tanks (62) with two different inks. Thanks to feedback given by measuring the output directly on the printed support, the system mixes the ink in the optimal proportions to ensure an optimal printing quality at any time. It can compensate any effect due to environmental changes like the humidity or the temperature. This system, coupled with a seven colours press allows for the replacement of spot colours in most cases therby saving time and costs.

Abstract

The present invention discloses a printing unit (1) with an automated sleeve change process. A sleeve (40) can be prepared for the next printing job while the current job is running, thereby reducing the changeover time. Also, the printing unit can handle printing sleeves of very different sizes without any special additional adjustments to be made. The printing unit (1) translates the printing roller (102, 202) and the inking roller (8) on a horizontal line (30) to engage and dis-engage the printing roller. The invention is convenient for large printing sleeves because the sleeve can be slipped over a shaft that remains in the unit. The setup results in a very rigid system, which guarantees an excellent printing quality.
