The processor (80) determines the cause of an image defect on the basis of a test image read from an output sheet of an image forming apparatus (2). The processor (80) performs a feature extraction process on the test image to generate a plurality of feature images. Further, the processor (80), using each of the plurality of feature images as an input image, subjects the input image to pattern recognition to determine to which of a plurality of candidate causes corresponding to the image defect the input image corresponds.

Abstract

The purpose of the present invention is to extract, for each type, image defects from a test image through a simple process. According to the present invention, a processor (80) generates a first pre-processing image and a second pre-processing image by executing a main filtering process by taking, as a processing direction, each of the horizontal and vertical directions of the test image. The main filtering process is a process for converting pixel values of pixels of interest sequentially selected from the text image to conversion values obtained by a process for emphasizing the differences between pixel values of a region of interest and pixel values of two adjacent regions. The processor (80) extracts, as the image defects, each of a first unique part that is present in the first pre-processing image and is not common to both the images, a second unique part that is present in the second pre-processing image and is not common to both the images, and a third unique part that is common to both the images.

Abstract

This sheet determination device comprises an acquisition unit and an unevenness determination unit. The acquisition unit acquires a specific image (Im1). The specific image (Im1) is an image of a specific region (R1) of a surface (A1) of a sheet (Sh1) on which an image is to be formed or from which an image is to be read. The specific region (R1) is a region of the surface (A1) of the sheet (Sh1) where pattern light (P1) is being projected. The unevenness determination unit determines, on the basis of the specific image (Im1), unevenness information which pertains to unevenness of the surface (A1) of the sheet (Sh1).
