Abstract

A firearm includes an integrated rail and sight system that slidably mounts to the top of the firearm and is also retractable and detachable from the firearm. The rail may slide on and off the top of the firearm and may include integrated front and rear flip down sights. Both sights are pinned to the rail and can fold down to the rail such that they are flush with or seat below the top portion of the rail. This permits accessories to be mounted to the rail without the sights interfering with the mounting of the accessories or without the sights interfering with the operation of the accessories. The firearm further includes an ambidextrous charging handle mounted through the integrated rail and sight system.

Abstract

A handguard or other cover for a firearm includes a shell or body with a hollow interior cavity and a retaining structure configured to engage the forearm and retain the shell in place on the forearm, where the retaining structure is releasable to permit removal of the shell from the forearm. The shell extends between first and second edges around an angular range greater than 180° and less than 360° to define the shell in a semi-tubular shape or a C-shape. The shell may have a concave inner surface and a convex outer surface extending between the first and second edges. The first edge is spaced from the second edge to define a gap providing access to the interior cavity, and the shell is configured to be connected to a forearm for the firearm by inserting the forearm within the interior cavity.

Abstract

A bolt assembly for a direct gas firearm includes a plurality of sealing rings. In an embodiment, there are three rings with ring gaps cut at about a 45 degree angle and the middle ring is flipped so that the angle of the gap of the middle ring is approximately 90 degrees from the angle of the gap of the two outer rings. In an embodiment, the angle of the ring gap of at least one of the plurality of sealing rings is between 0 and 90 degrees and the ring is configured so that the ring gap is minimized once the ring is installed.

Abstract

A receiver is configured to receiver a tabbed magazine. The receiver includes a receiver well having a slot configured to accept the tab on the tabbed magazine. In operation, the tabbed magazine can be inserted into the receiver well without having to rotate the tabbed magazine into the receiver well. A magazine catch engages a locking feature in a rib of the tabbed magazine so as to support the tabbed magazine in the receiver well. Once the tabbed magazine is empty, the tabbed magazine can be ejected by pressing a magazine release button without the need to rock the tabbed magazine out of the receiver well. The magazine release button can be configured to allow the user to eject the tabbed magazine by pressing the magazine release button on either side of the receiver. Once a loaded tabbed magazine is placed into the receiver well, the user can press a bolt stop button to release a bolt stop. The bolt stop button can be configured to allow the user to release the bolt stop by pressing the bolt stop button on either side of the receiver.
